Part of the Mapping Energy Project - with funding from the Royal Academy of Engineering - 6th form students and early-career engineers have been looking at various sources of heat underground, including the London Tube Network and riverways, to unlock a new way of conserving energy and cooling the interiors of the Square Mile Churches and associated buildings.
The students bring their models of churches in the Square Mile to add to the map and together work out a possible piping system for the extraction and distribution of subterranean energy.

Former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter were taken to Salisbury District hospital after becoming ill with suspected poisoning. The couple where found unconscious on bench in Salisbury shopping centre. Specialist units have been called in to deal with any possible contamination.

Former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter were taken to Salisbury District hospital after becoming ill with suspected poisoning. The couple where found unconscious on bench in Salisbury shopping centre. Specialist units have been called in to deal with any possible contamination.

A conservationist has built a series of eerie underwater sculptures to warn people of the fragility of the eco-system in Ko Tao, Thailand.
The project, entitled 'Despair' features artificial 'Drowning person' reef sculptures that has been fitted in the waters of the popular Thai island.
This particular project has been conceptualised, designed and built by New Heaven Reef Conservation Program staff member Spencer Arnold.
The structures have been put down in a coral reef that the team at New Heaven have been working to restore for over 7 years.

Nepal Earthquake aftermath
2nd May 2015, Kathmandu, Nepal. Nepali police rescue teams watch as a digger clears the rubble of a collapsed hotel at Gongabu Kathmandu, Nepal on the 2nd May 2015, this area was quite badly hit with many buildings collapsing while others around them remained unscathed, many people were killed in a small area but as recently as 30th April a woman was rescued from the hotel where she worked 5 days after the earthquake.
An earthquake with magnitude 7.8 occurred near Lamjung, Nepal, 50 miles northeast of the capital Kathmandu at 06:11:26 UTC on Apr 25, 2015. The capital has seen considerable devastation including the nine-story Dharahara Tower, one of Kathmandu's landmarks built by Nepal's royal rulers as a watchtower in the 1800s and a UNESCO-recognised historical monument. It was reduced to rubble and there were reports of people trapped. Portions of historic buildings in the World Heritage gazetted site of Patan have also been destroyed as well as many buildings in the old city.

Photographer Captures Intriguing X-rays of Toys
Australian photographer Brendan Fitzpatrick has spent 20 years documenting the skylines of cities around the world.
His latest series called Invisible Light looks at how x-ray technology can be used to reveal the surprisingly beautiful internal structures of simple objects like tulips, crabs, and toy replicas of robots and helicopters.
The project uses chest X-rays and mammogram machines to explore the inner workings of various objects and natural forms.
The 45-year-old has scanned toy robots, a toy gun, flowers and even a hen's eggs revealing their complex interiors.
The Sydney based photographer explains that he was inspired to look at X-rays while researching for a commercial job.
"The art directors wanted an X-ray effect which I assumed would be created using negatives etc. I never thought it worked so I explored the possibility of using real X-rays. I was very lucky to find a radiologist willing to work with me."
The photographer explains that the project is ongoing, and that he hopes to bring more depth and complexity to his interpretation of the subjects in the future.
Brendan believes the X-ray toys and models would make great wall art. He says that the large acrylic prints of the robots will light up a boy's bedroom or geek's cave big time
"The flowers are rather more subtle, often I find people don't realise it's an X-ray image."
