A new humanoid robot has joined the ranks of machines being developed around the world for more mundane tasks in the workplace.
Chinese company Pudu Robotics has unveiled the AI-equipped D9 which is 1.7 m tall, can walk upright and carry loads of up to 20 kg.
Its abilities include using an upright floor scrubber and dryer for commercial spaces, warehouse carrying and fetching as well as stocking department store shelves.
The company already has a semi-humanoid D7 robot which runs on wheels.
It was designed for tasks like serving and clearing tables in restaurants and autonomously operating elevators in office buildings.
The D9 body has42 degrees of freedom across its joints and is equipped with a dexterous hand.

A team of cat-like serving robots have been set to work in a restaurant chain in Japan.
The machines, called BellaBot , have been installed at branches of an all-you-can-eat chain called Skylark.
It has 276 outlets and the cat bots have been installed at 272 of them.
The BellaBots have been developed and built by Japanese tech firm Pudu.
The machines have a screen for a face which has a range of animated looks.
The screen also displays the menu to take orders.
The body of the bot consists of shelves which carry and deliver food to tables.
In narrow spaces, two robots automatically avoid each other and customers.
A Pudu spokesperson said: “This introduction is the first example of the industry's first major restaurant brand to introduce a serving robot at almost all stores.
“By the end of 2022, we plan to deploy a total of about 3,000 units.”
