SUNDAY DISCOVERY
Sunday afternoon excavators carefully lift out two AMPHORAE (large Roman wine vessels) found on a site in Walbrook, city of London. Left to right-Mr.I. Noel-Hume of the Guildhall Museum (in charge of the party); Audrey Baines (Wimbledon) : Charles Le Fevere (Camberwell) ; and Cynthia Barclay (Kensington ).
The vessels, believed to date back to the first century A.D. and are regarded as the most important discovery made by the party. It is believed there are only four other vessels of this kind in existence. The grab of a mechanical excavator missed the relics that were only three feet away . Mr. Noel-Hume and his party have been engaged for months on the site, part of the blitz ruins of the city.

The Venus of Hohle Fels figurine is believed to be world's oldest depiction of a human figure, near Schelklingen, Germany - May 2009

Dig site where the Venus of Hohle Fels figurine was found
Curvy 'Venus' May be Oldest Human Sculpture
CURVY 'VENUS' MAY BE OLDEST HUMAN SCULPTURE
A 35,000-year-old ivory carving of a curvaceous woman found in a German cave is believed to be the oldest known sculpture of the human form.
Archaeologists found the carving in six fragments in Germany's Hohle Fels cave, near Schelklingen. It depicts a woman with protruding breasts, a swollen belly and wide-set thighs.
"It's very sexually charged," said University of Tuebingen archaeologist Nicholas Conard, whose team discovered the figure in September.
Carbon dating suggests the 60-millimetre-long figurine - dubbed the Venus of Hohle Fels - was carved at least 35,000 years ago and suggests Palaeolithic art to be more complex than many had thought
According to the researchers' findings, which are being published in the scientific journal Nature, it may be the oldest piece of its kind yet discovered.
"It's the oldest known piece of figurative sculpture in the world," said Jill Cook, a curator of Paleolithic and Mesolithic material at the British Museum in London.
The discovery predates the well-known Venuses from the Gravettian culture by at least 5,000 years and radically changes our views of the context and meaning of the earliest Palaeolithic art," Conard wrote.
"Before this discovery ... female imagery was entirely unknown."
The figurine's enlarged breasts, bloated belly and thighs also make clear that sexual symbolism was alive and well tens of thousand of years ago, Paul Mellars of the University of Cambridge, wrote in a commentary.
"The feature of the newly discovered figure that will undoubtedly command most attention is its explicitly, almost aggressively, sexual nature, focussed ...

The latest cholera outbreak in the Torit County is growing rapidly and illustrates how the highly infectious disease is quickly spreading throughout the country.
This is the latest outbreak of a disease that has already contaminated over 2,600 people and killed more than 60 since the first cases were reported by Save The Children in Juba on 15th May.

OLYMPIA 2016 - Impressionen aus Rio de Janeiro
1st August 2016,Rio, Brazil. Beach volleyball stadium on Copacabana not finished. Construction work was continuing today at the Copacabana beach volleyball stadium, at the Lagoa Stadium, which is hosting the rowing and canoeing competitions, and at the Future Arena, where the handball will take place. Teams were practising on volleyball courts surrounded by dozens of workers. Scaffolders could be seen working on the main structure of the beach-front site while poles lay along spectator corridors and work was continuing on the media commentary boxes. Workers were also finishing pavements outside the venue where the first matches are to be held on Saturday. Lagoa Stadium remained partially shrouded in scaffolding, with officials blaming the delays on problems with suppliers.
