This is just another take of the classic view over Sgurr Fiona and the impressive ridge of An Teallach (Dundonell, NW Scotland) taken at sunset on a wild camping trip at the end of auutumn. Unfortunately the cloud cover prevented an explosion of colours at sunset, but visibility remained decent, so no complaining from me. I would have loved to get lower to emphasize the sandstone rocks a little more, but this would have concealed Loch Toll an Lochain.

A photographer has released a stunning series of photos that show the raw beauty of the Scottish Highlands.

Scotland-based photographer Camillo Berenos has spent the past few years travelling though the highlands, capturing breath-taking pictures along the way.

Camillo said: "Unlike many who undertake such projects, I haven't focused on a single defined geographical area, though the majority of my photographic forays have taken me to the Western and North-Western Highlands.

"From the vast but also familiar landscapes of Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe, to the relentlessly steep slopes of the hills in Kintail and the rugged and shapely mountain massifs of Torridon and Wester Ross, I have spent many hours in the hills, with specific destinations often primarily being determined by where the weather forecast looked most favourable."

The battlefield sites of WW1 in Flanders, the Somme, Verdun and the Argonne where thousands of men paid the ultimate price. Many were never found and still lie beneath the earth. 2014 is the centenary of the start of World War One, the Great War, the War
Ypres-Ieper WW1 Battlefield, 1914-1918, Belgium. Unexploded WW1 Shells at Two Mine Craters, Kruisstraat, Flanders, Belgium. February 2014. The Iron Harvest. Unexploded WW1 ordnance waiting to be collected by Belgian Bomb disposal team from Belgian Army in Mine Crater country to the south of Ypres. Hundreds of shells are unearthed each year on the battlefields of Flanders and across northern France.
The iron harvest is the annual "harvest" of unexploded ordnance, barbed wire, shrapnel, bullets and congruent trench supports collected by Belgian and French farmers after ploughing their fields. The harvest generally applies to the material from World War I, which is still found in large quantities across the former Western Front.During World War I an estimated one tonne of explosives was fired for every square metre of territory on the Western front. As many as one in every three shells fired did not detonate. In the Ypres Salient, an estimated 300 million projectiles that the British and the Germans forces fired at each other during World War I were duds, and most of them have not been recovered] In 2013, 160 tonnes of munitions, from bullets to 15 inch naval gun shells, were unearthed from the areas around Ypres.[4].Unexploded weapons - in the form of shells, bullets and grenades - buried themselves on impact or were otherwise quickly swallowed in the mud. As time passes, construction work, field ploughing and natural processes bring the rusting shells to the surface. Most of the iron harvest is found during the spring planting and autumn ploughing as the region of northern France and Flanders are rich agricultural areas.Farmers will collect the munitions and place them along the boundaries of fields or other collection points for authorities.Despite the condition of the shells, they remain very dangerous. The French Département du Déminage (Department of Mine Clearance) recovers about 900 tons of unexploded munitions every year.

They could be mistaken for stills from a Star Wars movie or a glimpse of a prehistoric past - but these amazing images capture the stunning survival instinct of the musk ox.

Wildlife photographer Roy Mangersnes captured these pictures showing the resilient mammals withstanding harsh Norwegian conditions.

Roy documented the hardy creatures as they hunkered down in gale force winds, blizzard conditions and temperatures reaching minus 25 degrees.

He spent six arduous days in the field at Dovrefjell National Park to get shots he felt represented the ancient species.

Highlights include a female ox appearing to be completely snowed in, while her calf and another youngster find shelter behind her, and a large bull ox shaking snow of its large body.

Roy shot the images for a nature film documentary and has only now been allowed to release them.

A Wandering Path - Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter image shows an ridge in Mars' Terra Meridiani
Originally released Aug. 1, 2007, this Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter image shows an ridge in Mars' Terra Meridiani that is most likely a former streambed, now exposed in inverted relief. The stream that formed this ridge must have been ancient as the ridge is buried by brighter rocks, which are themselves very old, having been thickly deposited and then heavily eroded. The Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity landed in the same region of Mars, and the rocks it has examined are likely part of a sequence similar to that exposed here. The rocks exposed at the Opportunity landing site are mostly wind-deposited sandstone, but show evidence of past water, reaching the surface at times. Opportunity has access to only a few meters of a stack of sediments that is hundreds of meters thick. Image Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/University of Arizona

Temperatures have already risen by 0.7 degrees celcius in the last 100 years making an already hot and dry area even more so. This desert area is likely to spread across the Mediteranean basin turning areas on the Mediteraneans north shore more desert like and less suitable for agriculture.
