FEATURE - Männer wollen Dauerwellen: Beim Frisör in den 1950er Jahren
Gentleman Prefer Perms
The young men of the 1950's became more hair conscious and started thinking in terms of hair styling , including permanent waves, seen here at the Hounslow salon of Leonard Pountney, Middlesex, England.
Once the hair has been washed, this client has a quick trim before the styling begins.

NEW BOY OF THE PENSIONERS
The Royal Hospital Chelsea, founded by King Charles II in 1862 “as a retreat for veterans of the regular army who had become unfit for duty, either after 20 years’ service or as a result of wounds”. Although there are no barracks, a certain amount of kindly discipline is maintained – a fact which these old soldiers actually appreciate. At present there are 367 Chelsea Pensioners, presided over by General Sir Cameron Nicholson, and new recruits give up their outside pension on entering the Hospital. In return he is provided with his board and accommodation, clothing, a pint of beer daily or tobacco in lieu. They purchase the summer red uniform for £15 and are expected to perform a few light duties, but the majority of the time is their own. The Hospital has much to offer with companionship high on the list. For the remainder of their days the old soldier has a place of comfort and friends with whom he can swap stories of campaigns. What more could a veteran ask for?

FEATURE - 1957: Hüte für Gentlemen bei Lock's in London
Lock's - The Hat Shop
There are exclusive shops in most of the world's great cities , but in few cities are the most exclusive quite like those of London . It would be almost true to say that the more exclusive a London shop , the less impressive it is from outside . Many of them , particularly those around St . James's - '' Club Land '' - in the West End , look more like well - preserved pawn - brokers ' establishments in dock area . One such is Lock's the Hatter's . From the street , the shop looks like a relic , slowly design from lack of custom . There is no bustle , no neon, and certainly there's never a queue ; yet it is to Lock's that the Duke of Windsor , the Duke of Edinburgh , the Duke of Norfolk , Sir Anthony Eden , and most of the names from Debrett come for their headgear .

Four-year-old boy gets scissors impaled in face after fall, Qinglong town, Qinghuangdao, China - 21 Mar 2010
SCISSORS IMPALE FOUR-YEAR-OLD'S FACE
A four-year-old boy is smiling again after suffering an horrific accident that saw him fall face first onto a pair of scissors.
Xiao Yu was helping his parents to paste spring festival scrolls onto the door of their home in Qinglong town, Qinghuangdao, when the accident occurred.
He became impaled on the scissors they were using when he tripped and landed on top of them.
The sharp implement pierced 7cm into his face, entering just left of his nose.
He was rushed to the local hospital but they were unable to handle such a severe injury.
So, little Yu was then transferred to multiple different hospitals until, 10 hours later, he was finally admitted to Xiehe hospital in Beijing.
Scans and x-rays revealed that the blades had become lodged in his upper jaw and were pointing to the inside of the skull at a very dangerous angle.
Doctors decided to remove the scissors surgically and, after much discussion, Director Zhao Jizhi came up with a plan of action with other experts.
During a three hour surgery they cut an opening inside Yu's mouth to make the blades visible before surgically removing the scissors and then sewing up the wounds.
Just eight days after the operation Yu is once again smiling after suffering no facial nerve damage.
And with just a scar to show for his ordeal, Yu has apparently bounced back from the horrible accident, forgetting the pain and already racing round the hospital ward.

The Duchess of Cambridge joined her father-in-law the Prince of Wales at a gallery to celebrate their shared love of the arts. The pair were greeted by hundreds of cheering schoolchildren waving Union flags when they arrived in the bright sunshine at Dulwich Picture Gallery in south London with the Duchess of Cornwall. It was the first time Kate had joined Charles on a visit to one of his charities. They chose to see the work of the Prince's Foundation for Children and the Arts at Dulwich because of their mutual interest, a Clarence House spokesman said.

Photo series showing dogs licking peanut butter off their noses, USA - Jul 2017
*Full story: https://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/thm6
A photographer with a love affair for rescue dogs has taken a humorous set of images featuring them with something they love ... peanut butter! Greg Murray's heartwarming 'for the love of peanut butter' photo series takes a simple concept - photographing dogs determined to lick peanut butter off their noses - and produces hilarious results. Ohio-based Greg, 34, has taken nearly 100 photos of dogs to date for the series and, as a rescue animal advocate, he always tries to photograph as many rescues as possible. As such his latest collection all involves pitbull mixes who are former rescue dogs or who are still waiting to be rehomed. Many of them have endured difficult early lives.

John Pearse dressed Jagger and Hendrix - now he is wooing Gen Z
The Soho-based, Swinging Sixties legend John Pearse is the 'Mod buddha' dazzling a new generation of fashionistas.
Very few young people can afford, or have the faintest desire to save up for, a tailor-made garment. Those that do probably go to John Pearse.
The 77-year-old tailor has his airy shop on the pedestrianised Meard Street in Soho. Pearse, never one for moving to Savile Row ("I'm much more exclusive here," he says)
Pearse secured his first assisting job at the Jermyn Street tailor Hawes & Curtis in 1960, when he was 15. "They had the Duke of Edinburgh and lots of good clients," he says, beginning to laugh. Alexander McQueen infamously claimed to have stitched "I am a c***" into the lining of a jacket he made for the then-Prince Charles during his tailor's apprentice days, which came two decades later. "I did the same for the King's dad," Pearse says. What did he write? "Some scrawls of stuff that remains secret."
