Continuous gale force winds and rough seas are having an effect on Britain's favourite sea bird - The Puffin. This puffin was blown underneath a caravan at Brean in Somerset. The RSPCA have 4 puffins in their rescue centre at West Hatch near Taunton in Somerset all suffering from being 'Wind Blown.' Not being strong enough to cope with 80mph winds and driving rain. The Puffins will stay with the RSPCA until they are stronger and the bad weather subsides

Continuous gale force winds and rough seas are having an effect on Britain's sea birds. Dormant oil slicks on the bottom of the ocean from previous spills are being whipped up stormy weather and high winds are also making it difficult to fly. The RSPCA rescue centre at West Hatch near Taunton in Somerset is treating Razor Bills, Fulmar, and Guillimots for oil contamination. All the birds will stay with the RSPCA to be cleaned up and will be released back into the wild when they are stronger and the bad weather subsides. Meanwhile, the centre is also caring for 'wind blown' puffins who have found themselves unable to cope with 80mph winds and driving rain. They will also be released once the weather improves.

Top five NASA Landsat observation satellites images of Earth - 24 Jul 2012

Top five NASA Landsat Satellites Images of Earth
During a span of 40 years, since 1972, the Landsat series of Earth observation satellites has become a vital reference worldwide for understanding scientific issues related to land use and natural resources.
Beyond the scientific information they supply, some Landsat images are simply striking to look at, presenting spectacular views of mountains, valleys, and islands as well as forests, grasslands, and agricultural patterns.
By selecting certain features and colouring them from a digital palate, the U.S. Geological Survey has created a series of "Earth as Art" perspectives that demonstrate an artistic resonance in satellite land imagery and provide a special avenue of insight about the geography of each scene.
NASA asked the public to vote on their favourite images from the more than 120 images in the online "Earth as Art" collection. From over 14,000 votes the top five winners were:
1st Place: Van Gogh from Space Landsat 7 Acquired 7/13/2005. In the style of Van Gogh's painting "Starry Night," massive congregations of greenish phytoplankton swirl in the dark water around Gotland, a Swedish island in the Baltic Sea. Population explosions, or blooms, of phytoplankton, like the one shown here, occur when deep currents bring nutrients up to sunlit surface waters, fuelling the growth and reproduction of these tiny plants.
2nd Place: Yukon Delta Landsat 7 Acquired 9/22/2002. Countless lakes, sloughs, and ponds are scattered throughout this scene of the Yukon Delta in southwest Alaska. One of the largest river deltas in the world, and protected as part of the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, the river's sinuous waterways seem like blood vessels branching out to enclose an organ.
3rd Place: Meandering Mississippi Landsat 7 Acquired 5/28/2003. ...

A pine cone being blown apart by a fast white paint/gelatine-filled Christmas bulb
Impressive Shots: Alan Sailer's High Speed Photography
What an impressive shot!
Alan Sailer creates amazing images of everyday items being hit by projectiles.
Using high-speed photography, he can capture in stunning detail the moment items such as marbles and pellets pass through objects.
The jaw-dropping results include a pellet shredding three cigarettes, a marble destroying an ice cream cone and the shooting of stacks of staples.
Other targeted highlights include cans of drink, ice lollies, a cherry pie and a tub of cream cheese.
Based in Camarillo, California, the 56-year-old is a microwave engineer by day, but pursues his hobby in his garage in the evening.
Getting the shots is all in the timing. Alan opens the shutter on his camera on a one second exposure with one hand, while firing the rifle or air cannon with the other. A powerful flash is triggered when the projectile passes through a laser beam.
His set-up allows him the option to not only fire pellets and marbles at 500ft per second, but items such as Christmas ornaments filled with coloured gelatine.
Alan began his hobby after building his own 20,000 volt microsecond flash in 2008. He was encouraged when an image he took of a pellet being split by a razor blade caused a stir online.
"I was very surprised at the reaction to the razor blade splitting the pellet shot. It has had over 270,000 views and made me a little famous. The shot scared me, I didn't know if pieces of razor blade would come flying out."
Contrary to the destructive nature of his work, Alan isn't a fan of firearms.
He explains: "Bye the bye, I don't like guns as some people seem to think from the photos. It just that the only way to get great high speed photos is to photograph so...

Linford Christie guilty of careless driving, Aylesbury Crown Court, Buckinghamshire, Britain - 21 Jul 2011

Linford Christie Found Guilty Of Careless Driving
Former British Olympic gold medallist Linford Christie has been found guilty of careless driving.
The 100m sprint champion crashed head-on into a taxi carrying a newlywed couple while driving the wrong way down a major road.
The accident took place in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire, on May 8 last year.
The accident left the crumpled taxi on the grass verge while Christie's car came to a rest in the middle of the A413.
According to witnesses, following the smash the 51-year-old climbed out of his badly-damaged Audi A8 before falling to the ground and saying: "Oh my God, it's all my fault".
Two of the four people in the taxi were newlyweds with the bride suffering serious bruising while her husband had to hospitalised with a punctured lung.
Meanwhile, the bride's uncle, who was also in the car, broke his leg, hip, spine and pelvis.
Following a two day trial Christie, who won the 100m gold medal at the 1992 Olympics, was cleared of dangerous driving but found guilty of careless driving.
He was handed a 15-month driving ban as well as being fined GBP 5,000, and ordered to pay GBP 1,000 prosecution costs.

Claudia Schiffer
Claudia Schiffer in Notting Hill, London, Britain - 11 May 2009
As a supermodel Claudia Schiffer is normally the epitome of stylish grace with not a hair out of place. But not even supermodels can control the weather and the German beauty looked less than perfect today thanks to the windy conditions. Out and about in Notting Hill Claudia's carefully styled, poker straight, hair do was left decidedly windswept thanks to an ill-timed gust of wind. However, with celeb sized sunglasses firmly in place, and ever the professional, she didn't let the windy conditions faze her - strutting along the pavement as though she was on the catwalk.

Pamela Anderson struggles with her hair
Pamela Anderson arrives at Radio 1 studios, London, Britain - 18 Sep 2008
As she arrived at the Radio 1 studios today to promote her new reality TV series blonde bombshell Pamela Anderson seemed to suffer something of a hair malfunction as her hair blew over her face. However, considering the high speed, whirlwind promotional tour that the former Baywatch star is currently on, which has seen her visit Australia and France recently, it is maybe little surprise that the star is somewhat ruffled. Meg Ryan steps out with a mystery man as she leaves a beauty salon in West Hollywood, wearing a less than flattering pair of black lace up shoes teamed with white socks. The mum of two was formerly married to actor Dennis Quaid and famously had an affair with Russell Crowe.
