Corset piercing craze sees ribbon 'sewn' onto backs, ribs and thoroats, Southampton, Hampshire, Britain - 3 May 2011

The Latest Craze? Of Corset Is
A bizarre new craze called 'corset piercing' is sweeping the UK.
The painful trend involves sticking hoops into the skin and then threading them with ribbon to give a 'corset' effect.
The 'decoration', which can cost up to GBP 300, can be applied to any area of the body where the skin is loose enough to pinch in order to thread a needle through.
Popular areas include the back, ribs and, in some cases, even the throat.
Anyone who wants the unusual decoration must endure an hour of pain to achieve the effect.
However, it's only temporary as after a few weeks of wear the hooks simply grow out, leaving scars in their place.
The craze is the latest in the 'body modification' phenomenon, which has seen people going to extraordinary levels in a bid to stand out from the crowd.
Today it's possible to be branded, scarred and even have silicone implanted under the skin to create bumps and 'horns'.
Kooky popstar Lady Gaga is just one celebrity who's jumped on the bandwagon. She sported bizarre flesh-coloured 'horns' on her face during a television interview in February this year.
According to piercing experts, the 'corset' modification is growing in popularity as more and more brave the pain.
But consultant plastic surgeon Kevin Hancock, a council member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons who works at Spire Murrayfield Hospital, Merseyside, warned of the problems it can cause.
He added: "I can't believe it's something that people would be attracted to.
"Any piercing, superficial or otherwise, produces a scar and different people scar in different ways.
"For some, the scarring may be slight but for others it can produce problems where the tissue overgrows and you end up with a red lump which is permanent.
"In some cases this can...

Hoodies for dogs becomes the latest pet fashion craze, Southampton, Hampshire, Britain - 22 Nov 2009
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Solent News / Rex Features ( 1044718f )
HOODIES FOR HOUNDS
Dog owners are now dressing their pets in a range of trendy hoodies launched by a speciality pooch clothing company.
Fur-trimmed parkas, puffer jackets and fleecy body warmers are all made to fit a variety of dogs.
Schoolgirls Isabel and Jasmine Dicks love to dress their pet Chihuahuas Angel and Brick in the range of little coats.
Isabel, 13, and Jasmine, 11, choose their doggy outfits every day - and even get busy on the sewing machine to make sure the clothes fit just right.
The sisters save up their pocket money to buy the new clothes - ranging in price from GBP 5 to GBP 40 - from website DoggieStyleStore.com.
They have also bought a pink coat with black fur trim from store Pets at Home.
While out for walks near their home in Southampton, Hants, the nine month old dogs turn heads wherever they go.
The pair of short-haired Chihuahuas, the world's smallest breed of dog, weighed just a pound each when they became part of the family at just eight weeks old.
Isabel fell in love with Chihuahuas when she spotted one in a pet shop close to where they live and nagged parents Gina Penn and Graham Dicks to get them.
She said: "I just wanted one straight away and I kept going on at Mum until she let me."
Now the girls get puzzled looks when they walk along with their dogs dressed in the bizarre selection of clothes, which makes dad Graham, a crematorium technician, feel distinctly uncomfortable.
He said: "I felt I should be wearing a Village People's outfit to match. But they're cracking little dogs. They've really grown on me."
Gina said: "They are tiny dogs with very little body fat so it is recommended that they wear coats in the winter.
"The girls love dressing them. Izzy particularly loves nice clothes and I think this is an extension of that and her love ...

The workers who lost their jobs to AI
From a radio host replaced by avatars to a comic artist whose drawings have been copied by Midjourney, how does it feel to be replaced by a bot?
'I feel devastated for the younger generation - it's taking all the creative jobs'

I landed my dream job in 2023, writing content for a garden centre. I mostly did search engine optimisation, and wrote gardening tips for their magazine.
Around eight months in, I noticed I was getting less work. One day, I overheard my boss saying to a colleague, “Just put it in ChatGPT.” The marketing department started to use it more often to write their blogs
