Airbus reactivates the A380 with several tests at Toulouse Blagnac Airport
As the 20th anniversary of the first Airbus A380 flight approaches, the first manufactured unit of this model takes to the skies again. Since March 14, Airbus conducts several tests with the A380, using new engines and testing more sustainable fuels. Airbus delivers 251 A380s, and the last one is manufactured in March 2021. More than half of these aircraft belong to Etihad, a company that pushes for the re-production of the world's largest passenger aircraft, which conducts one of the tests at Toulouse Blagnac Airport in Toulouse, France, on May 7, 2025. Inside High Bay 3 of the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the work platforms have been retracted from around the Artemis I Space Launch System on September 20, 2021. All ten levels of platforms were extended and retracted as part of an umbilical test. During the test, several umbilical arms on the mobile launcher were extended to connect to the SLS rocket. They swung away from the launch vehicle, just as they will on launch day. NASA and Jacobs teams will continue conducting tests inside the VAB before transporting the Orion spacecraft to the assembly building and stacking it atop the SLS, completing assembly of the rocket for the Artemis I mission. A Union Pacific freight train lies idle after derailing near an area where thousands of empty boxes were left by cargo thieves in the Lincoln Heights section of Los Angeles on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Dozens of freight cars are broken into every day on Los Angeles railways by thieves who take advantage of the train's stops to loot packages bought online leaving thousands of gutted boxes, including Amazon packages, UPS boxes, unused COVID tests, fishing lures and epi pens that will never reach their location. UPS bags are popular among "thieves opening cargo containers" because "they are often full of boxes with merchandise bound for residential addresses," local law enforcement said.

During final testing, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is pictured, fully expanding and locking into place, just as it would in space. The conclusion of this test represents the team's final checkpoint in a long series of tests designed to ensure Webb's 18 hexagonal mirrors are prepared for a long journey in space. After this, all of Webb's many movable parts will have confirmed in testing that they can perform their intended operations after being exposed to the expected launch environment. As of December 15, 2021, the JWST team was working on a communication issue between the observatory and the launch vehicle system, delaying the launch date to no earlier than Friday, December 24.
