Ayse Icoz, 102, Britain's oldest first-time voter at a polling station in Cambridge
General Election polling day, Cambridgeshire, Britain - 07 May 2015
A 102-YEAR-OLD grandmother has become Britain's OLDEST first-time election voter. Ayse Icoz, who was born in Turkey, has lived in Cambridge for 10 years, but been unable to vote in previous elections because she did not have British citizenship.
Now her passport has come through - just in time for today's general and council elections. Ayse, who has seven children and 21 grandchildren, was driven to the polling station in Chesterton, Cambridge, by her son Riza Icoz. Mr Icoz, a full-time carer for his mum, who will be 103 in a couple of months, said: "My mum was very excited this morning and pleased to be able to vote for the first time in a general election in Britain. "She received her passport two months ago, just in time for the elections and I drove her to the polling station this morning." Mr Icoz added: "I don't know who she voted for. I think it must be a record age for a first-time British voter.

COTTON SPOOL ART BY DEVORAH SPERBER
Devorah Sperber is a clever sew and sew - she makes stunning art pieces from thousands of cotton spools.
The New York-based artist's work includes a 1,102 spool portrait of Star Trek's Dr Spock and a thread reproduction of the Mona Lisa made from 5,184 bobbins.
She has also created a yarn version of Da Vinci's The Last Supper using an amazing 20,736 reels.
To create the pieces Devorah hangs different coloured thread spools on wire to make up a 'pixelated' upside-down picture.
The images can only be unravelled by looking through a special viewing magnifying glass which corrects the inverted image, just as the lens of the eye projects an inverted image onto the retina which is corrected by the brain.
Devorah's concept is based on the technology of print making and how although pictures are separated into tiny pixels, the human mind can still make sense of the images.
"As a visual artist," she says, "I cannot think of a topic more stimulating and yet so basic than the act of seeing - how the human brain makes sense of the visual world."
And it was reel-y easy to find the correct materials to use in her work.
"When compiling a list of materials that could become real life pixels my criteria was that the objects had to be beautiful in and of themselves, come in a wide range of colours, and to be read...

LAE, Papua New Guinea (May 25, 2011) Military personnel and civilians embarked aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS Cleveland (LPD 7) swim during a morale, welfare and recreation swim call. Cleveland is the primary platform for Pacific Partnership, a five-month humanitarian assistance initiative that completed its mission in Tonga and Vanuatu, and will visit Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, and the Federated States of Micronesia. U.S. Navy 'swim calls' - 2016
When you're job is sailing the seas, the World is your swimming pool.
These amazing pictures show sailors and marines from the U.S. Navy taking part in what they call 'swim calls'.
Most recently pictured earlier this month (Feb) are those cooling off by jumping from into the Indian Ocean from guided-missile cruiser USS Antietam.
With the ship anchored, Swim Calls are seen as a refreshing break from the job of keeping high-tech battleships running.
The activity often occurs in warm foreign waters, such as the Mediterranean, Arabian and South China seas, the Indian and Pacific oceans.
Suffice to say, there will be people tasked with shark watch, from the ship and rigid-hulled inflatable boats.
Swimmers are able to clamber back onto the ship via landing docks or by climbing cargo nets.
