Incredible elderly people, Tokyo, Japan
"Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter," said Mark Twain. That's certainly the case for some of Tokyo's older generations.
This fantastically quirky series documents an elderly trio in a hot tub after diving for shellfish, as well as a 93-year-old sake-drinking bar owner and many other lively nonagenarians.

In the year that ?The Iron Lady? would have celebrated her 90th birthday, approximately 350 historic and personal lots will be offered across two landmark sales: a flagship auction presenting 150 lots in London at Christie?s headquarters on Tuesday 15 December, and an online only sale comprising 200 lots from 3 December to 16 December. These sales are taking place 25 years after Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013) left Office, following an 11-year tenure as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (1979-1990). With items relating to Margaret Thatcher?s time in Office, including her red leather Prime Ministerial Dispatch box (estimate: GBP 3,000-5,000), speech notes and an impressive gift from President Ronald Reagan, alongside jewellery, clothes and handbags, these auctions present unique opportunities for collectors to acquire property from the longest serving Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in the 20th century

Hodge Close Quarry in the Lake District, Cumbria, Britain - 26 May 2012

The Scariest Cave In Britain?
At first glance this looks like a perfectly ordinary scene, but tilt your head to one side a terrifying skull visage emerges.
In the bright sunlight the magnificent Hodge Close Quarry in the Lake District doesn't look like the scariest cave in Britain.
But look at it with fresh eyes, and from a different angle, and the outline of a spooky skull can clearly be seen.
Hodge Close is a massive excavation of light green coloured slate, sheer-sided and unfenced.
The 150 feet deep face is a favourite with abseilers, while the 150 feet deep flooded workings are popular with divers.
There is a tunnel entrance at a depth of 24m, which leads to three chambers and two interconnecting tunnels.
A number of divers have lost their lives at Hodge Close as a result of getting lost in these underwater tunnels.
In 2005 the Coniston Mountain Rescue Team had to help a 48-year-old diver who had surfaced too fast after thinking he had seen a body under the water there.
And anyone in any doubt of the peril that can be faced at Hodge Close need only look at these unnerving images.

'Feet First' - photos documenting a couples travels through their relationship until a third pair of feet join them - 05 Jan 2012

Wandering Feet: Couple Document Travels By Foot Pics (& Baby Joins The Fun)
This collection of photographs document a British couple's travels over six years by just showing their feet.
London photographer Tom Robinson was sat on Brighton beach with his new girlfriend Verity in 2005 when he took a picture of their feet pointing out to sea.
Ever since then he has continued to document their travels and experiences in this way resulting in a collection of over 90 personal photos called 'Feet First'.
The photographs never once show their faces but in 2011 the series takes on a twist with the arrival of a third pair of feet - their daughter Matilda.
Tom and Verity Robinson both 30 have travelled extensively through South East Asia, South and Central America finding themselves lucky enough to experience some of the world's natural wonders by visiting a total of 31 countries.
Highlights of their photo album include their feet making their way across the Maekok River in Thailand; standing on volcanic rock in Guatemala; resting after four days trekking through the Andes Mountains and arriving at Machu Picchu in Peru and the collection finishes with the whole family watching their first sunset in Portugal.
Tom said: "Looking at the Brighton photo I just knew it'd make a great series. Verity and I had been going out for about six months but I had a feeling we'd be together for a long time.
"We were also really keen to start travelling so I knew we'd have lots of adventures together."
The Robinson's travels have taken them to Australia, taking a boat trip around the Whitsunday Islands despite it being stinger season (the seas are swarming with killer jellyfish) and travelling in their beloved campervan.
Describing one of their adventures, Tom said: "After a long day driving we couldn't find an...

Smokey the cat, who is belived to have the loudest purr in the world, Pitsford, Northampton, Britain - 21 Feb 2011
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Geoffrey Robinson / Rex Features ( 1288502c )
Un-Purr-lievable: The Cat As Loud As A Boeing 737
Pet cat Smokey is believed to have the loudest purr in the world - with piercing purrs as loud as a lawnmower.
Most cats purr at around 25 decibels but Smokey's powerful purrs average an amazing 80 decibels.
When measured close-up her purrs reach an incredible 92 decibels, equivalent to the noise of a lawnmower, hair dryer or a Boeing 737 coming into land.
Owners Ruth and Mark Adams say Smokey's deafening purrs make it impossible for them to hear the television or radio when she is in the room and they struggle to have telephone conversations.
"She has always been very vocal and purrs at some level nearly all the time," said Ruth, from Pitsford, Northampton.
"She even manages to purr while she eats. The only time she is quiet is when she is asleep.
"When I'm on the phone friends often ask what the loud noise is and they can't believe it is coming from a cat."
Ruth and Mark adopted Smokey from rescue centre NANNA in Northants three years ago for her 10-year-old daughter Amy.
The family has two dogs and two other cats but say 12-year-old Smokey is by far the loudest cat they have ever heard.
"It's either adorable or annoying, depending on what mood you're in and it's very loud," said Ruth, who also has a son, Jordan, 12.
"You don't even have to stroke her to start a purring session; often she'll do it for no reason.
"It can be annoying if her loud purring starts as you are watching television and it has reached a romantic bit in a film, because it's impossible to hear and spoils the moment.
"I don't know why she does it. It doesn't seem to bother her in any way. She's very happy and content, just very loud."
Ruth said Smokey, whose favourite pastimes are eating and sleeping on the window sill, sometimes made herself cough as her...

Firefighters called to rescue horse from pig sty roof, Silverstone, Northamptonshire, Britain - 16 May 2010
HORSE ON A PIG'S TIN ROOF
This poor pony was left looking long in the face after horsing around and ending up on the roof of a pig sty.
Graf the horse had to be winched to safety by three fire crews after he tried to visit his farmyard friends and fell through the roof.
The clumsy colt felt a bit of an ass after jumping over a fence out of his raised paddock and landing on top of the pig sty at Hayes Farm in Silverstone, Northants.
The heavy horse found himself in a tight fix after the corrugated iron roof collapsed and he was left hanging on the bare beams for 90 minutes.
Fire crews from nearby Brackley and Towcester and the specialist animal rescue unit based 30 miles away at Wellingborough were called to the rescue.
Graf was sedated by a local vet before being winched to safety and treated for minor injuries.
"The horse had jumped from its field which was located on a higher level, over a fence and got stuck in the roof of another farm building," said a spokesman for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue.
"Specialist equipment on the Animal Rescue Unit was used to rescue the horse using a winch."
Kevin Sumner, of Hayes Farm, said Graf was now recovering well.
"Graf is now recovering with his owner Emma Sumner who had to stay with him all night to nurse his many injuries.
"Apparently the special heavy lift vehicle is only one of two in the Country so Graf was lucky to take his "flight" in Northhamptonshire."

Reflected sunlight on king penguin (Aptenodytes patagonicus) breeding and nesting colonies on South Georgia Island, Southern Ocean. King penguins are rarely found below 60 degrees south, and almost never on the Antarctic Peninsula. The King Penguin is the second largest species of penguin at about 90 cm (3 ft) tall and weighing 11 to 16 kg (24 to 35 lb), second only to the Emperor Penguin. King penguins eat small fish, mainly lanternfish, and squid and rely less than most Southern Ocean predators on krill and other crustaceans. On foraging trips they repeatedly dive to over 100 meters (350 feet), often over 200 meters (700 feet). This is far deeper than other penguins, other than their closest relative, the larger Emperor penguin. King Penguins breed on the subantarctic islands at the northern reaches of Antarctica, as well as Tierra del Fuego, South Georgia, and other temperate islands of the region. The total population is estimated to be 2.23 million pairs and is increasing. The King Penguin was described in 1778 by English naturalist and illustrator John Frederick Miller, its generic name derived from the Ancient Greek a 'without' pteno- 'able to fly' or 'winged' and dytes/ 'diver'.Its specific epithet patagonicus derived from Patagonia.
