Pet lovers with an unusual passion are being given a very special morning once a week – to get together with their pack of robot dogs. The Penguin Café iin Tokyo, Japan, invites owners in for a play date every Sunday morning. The event, called 'Aibo World' is for owners and admirers of tech giant Sony's Aibo robot dog.The café owner decided to start up the gathering after buying one of the robot dogs for himself. The device is fitted with multiple cameras, touch sensors and microphones to make it more lifelike and responsive. It can walk, wag its tail, out up a paw to shake a hand, move its ears back and forth and kick a ball and blink its eyes thanks to two Sony organic LED displays that can even follow its owner around.

BERTI a life size humanoid robot, Science Museum, London,Britain - 17 Feb 2009
BERTI, a life size humanoid robot, plays Paper, Scissors, Stone at the Science Museum. A joint project between Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL) and Elumotion, BERTI is a life size humanoid robot built to mimic a key component of human communication: gesturing. Visitors to the Antenna Gallery can witness BERTI's amazing gestural abilities and get the chance to participate in live research by telling scientists how they rate BERTI's performance.
Visitors will have the opportunity to stand facing BERTI while he gives a prepared speech accompanied with his repertoire of hand and arm gestures. They will then be asked to complete a short questionnaire rating the quality of BERTI's gestural abilities. A camera will record participants own gestural and emotional responses to BERTI. The data collected will become part of a wider study into the interface between humans and robots.
