Duck! Here Comes A Hungry Lynx!
Oh duck! Here comes a hungry lynx!

One bird had a very lucky escape when a sneaky predator made a swipe for it.

The wildcat had spotted a tasty duck bobbing about on a pond and, after creeping up through long grass, made a leap with claws outstretched.

But the duck wasn't daffy and made a life-saving flap for freedom as the lynx's paws narrowly missed its prize.

Photographer Anthony C. Gibson captured the dramatic scene in Alaska's Denali National Park.

He explains: "The park is covered with knee-high vegetation so the chances of ever spotting a lynx is near zero.

"Small little ponds are everywhere on the tundra, and we found this lynx stalking around one near the main road late in the afternoon.

"He would move in and out of the weeds along the edge of the pond for a while, and then he actually came out into the open on a little finger that stuck out on the pond, laid down, and took a nap.

"It had been watching a loon out on the pond, and the loon had been watching the lynx as well and had been staying out in the middle of the pond. I suspect the nap was an act because it would pop its head up to check on the loon.

"After it gave up on the loon, he went on the move going in and out of the grass again headed away from the pond. I picked up my gear and headed in the same direction.

"As I came over the top of the hill, the lynx was about 100 feet to the right headed for another pond that was just on the other side of the hill. It was at this point that I lost sight of him, as it had gone deep into the brush. However, there were two American Wigeon ducks feeding along the shore at the other end of the pond. At this point I decided to change positions and focus on the two wigeon.

"As soon as I got set up and focused on the wigeon the lynx exploded out of ...

Fox creeps up on Musti the cat
Hunter Becomes The Hunted: Don't Mess With This Moggy
It looked like Musti the cat was about to tick off one of his lives when a cheeky fox started to creep up on him.

The three-year-old pussy seemed oblivious to the imminent danger as he prowled around his garden.

But Musti isn't a moggy to be licked that easily and bravely turned the tables on the predator and chased it off.

The cat's brave stand was captured by owner Hugo Udusaar who watched the drama unfold from his home in Estonia.

He explains: "I live on the island Aegna and when people leave the island for the winter the foxes start to move across the island.

"But Musti does not like these visitors and will angrily protect his territory. He has no fear and will chase off foxes whenever they appear.

"I was a bit worried at first, wondering if Musti had seen the fox. But before I could tap on the window he suddenly turned on the fox and sprinted after him. I think the fox was lucky to escape!"

    Surf's Up For Underwater Snapper
A photographer spent months being battered by the sea as he captured the moments waves broke underwater.

Alex Tipple took the stunning shots of swimmers and surfers emerging underwater engulfed in clouds of whitewater while being frequently rocked by the waves himself.

The 29 year old captures the split second moments off the Australian coast and regularly gets beaten in the head by his 5kg, specially adapted camera for his troubles.

Alex, from Sydney, Australia, came up with the idea of photographing waves underwater after becoming frustrated with 'normal' surf photography, and wanted to capture the moments from a different perspective.

He said: "During a flat spell in Sydney I shot a few small waves with people swimming off to the side.

"The results were pretty graphic and led to people swimming becoming the focus of the series, which was against my initial intention but looked great.

"Most of the people I photograph are just enjoying themselves at the beach and I ask them if they'd mind being in a picture.

"I tell them what I'm doing and show them a few photos and mostly they're amazed.

"Most of the time I come off worse than the people I'm shooting, generally I'm looking sidewards to track where they are in relation to where the wave is, and tend to pay more attention to them than the wave; which can rock me pretty hard.

"I'm pretty comfortable underwater from years of surfing, and can ride out the waves breaking overhead.

"Most of the credit has to be paid to the camera though, I'd be lying if I didn't say that most of the time I hold the shutter down and point in the general direction of the people.

"The housing is about the size of a shoebox, and weighs about 5 kilograms, heavy enough to hurt when it hits me in the head.

    "I gu...
