A toddler from Wales with a rare brain tumour is to undergo pioneering treatment in America after wellwishers donated over GBP 100,000. Two-year-old Freya Bevan and her parents John-Paul and Katherine are set to travel to Oklahoma where she will undergo proton beam therapy for three months. Freya was diagnosed with a PNET tumour last year and has already undergone surgery and chemotherapy. However, part of her tumour remains and doctors have said that proton therapy is their best bet. As the treatment is not available in the UK, and the Bevan's application for funding was turned down, they had to turn to fundraising in order to raise the money. Wellwishers donated thousands and the fund was also given a boost by the parents of Olivia Stanca.

Cardboard Couture: Students Create Box Fresh Fashions

Talk about box fresh - these outfits are the latest in cardboard couture.

They are the work of students at Somerset's Strode College, who were given just a day and a half to creating the wacky costumes and present them on the catwalk.

As part of a project in their first week at college, the 16-18-year-olds worked in groups to come up with designs ranging from Rio carnival-influenced to a flowing outfit based on a peacock.

There are also quirky efforts with names including Roman Angel, Shakespearian Axeman and Trojan Fish.

Duncan Cameron, Strode College's Sculpture Teacher, said: "We always kick of the year with a project to warm up the students' creativity after the summer holidays and to get them working together.

"They've shown great design and construction skills and created some fantastic costumes using only recycled cardboard, brown tape, paper and string. We've had a great time working with them - watching their ideas develop and their confidence grow."

Students who worked on the cardboard costumes for the September 2012 show are studying Art and Design Level 3 Extended Diploma and Art and Design Foundation pre-degree Diploma.

    Downing St. Cat Fight
The claws were well and truly out in Downing Street this morning.

The fur flew when Larry the cat, belonging to Prime Minister David Cameron, and Chancellor George Osborne's cat Freya decided to slug it out.

Following on a long tradition of disputes between those at No. 10 and No. 11 Downing Street, the proud pusses were seen settling their difference the old fashioned way.

And it was poor old Larry who seemed to come off worse - getting a paw to the throat from Freya

    BRITAIN'S SMALLEST MUM

She's not much taller than the average five-year-old so Karina White is used to people assuming the tot she's pushing is her baby sister.

But the 3ft 9ins mum delights in telling them the little girl is in fact hers - even more so because Karina was told her tiny size meant she could never be a mum.

It was feared that her little frame, which is caused by a rare growth condition, would not support a pregnancy bump.

However, Karina, 33, proved them all wrong when she fell pregnant last January.

Baby Freya was delivered by emergency C section on 17 August last year at 33 weeks.

Seven weeks premature, she weighed just 3lb 8oz and was kept in hospital for 12 weeks, finally going home in November last year.

Now doting mum Karina, who can only just see over the handlebars of her pram, says baby Freya has made her dreams come true.

Even the attention they receive from strangers, who do a double take when they see what they think is a young girl pushing a pram, doesn't bother her.

"They can look, I'm happy to show my gorgeous daughter off to the world," smiles Karina.

"Usually when they see my face close up they realise the mistake and look embarrassed, which is a shame because I'm not embarrassed at all".

Now eight months old, baby Freya, who has inherited the same growth condition as her mum, weighs 9lb 1oz - the same size as some newborns.

However, Karina and her husband Paul, 38, love being parents so much they haven't ruled out having another one.

"Yes it's tough, but what new mum doesn't say that. She is the centre of our world and such a happy little girl," says Karina.
