The man sitting on top of the wind turbine
Drone pilot discovers man sunbathing on top of 200ft tall wind turbine, Rhode Island, America - Aug 2015
*Full story: http://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/qw35
An astonished drone pilot filmed a giant wind turbine - and discovered a man sunbathing 200ft above the ground. Remarkable video shows the moment the drone reached the top of the turbine and found the mystery man flat on his back soaking up rays. The sun-worshipper, alerted by the blades of the aircraft, is seen sitting up and then waving and shrugging as the drone moves in for a closer look. The pictures were taken by Kevin Miller, from San Diego, California, while he was on holiday in Rhode Island on the other side of the country earlier this month. An open hatch is visible at the top of the turbine and it is assumed the man, possibly an engineer, climbed the rung ladder inside the support column. Kevin, 49, who was watching the live images on a monitor screen, 'waved' back to the man by moving the drone from side-to-side.

Hotel owner discovers image of E.T on tree stump, Isle Skye, Scotland - 16 Jan 2015
*Full story: http://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/pttp
It would appear that after phoning home E.T has returned to earth - in the stump of a tree! Hotel owner Billy Harley, who runs the Uig Hotel on the Isle of Skye, found the amazing image of the famous extra-terrestrial inside the trunk of a tree he was chopping to make firewood. He said: "The weather has got a lot colder in the last week and I was getting some additional logs ready to keep the place warm for our guests. I put the chainsaw through a trunk and there was ET staring back at me. I phoned home and my wife brought a camera out to take some pictures. "We're not quite sure what to do now. We could turn ET into a coffee table or a bar stool maybe". The Uig Hotel is a popular destination for visitors to the Isle of Skye. The Harley family are now hoping that they'll attract more visitors to the appropriately-named island, perhaps wishing for a glimpse in the sky of ET's parents coming to collect him.

Teenager discovers formula that may help treat Alzheimer's, Poland - 30 Jan 2014
A Polish teenager has created a substance that may one day be used to treat Alzheimer's, it has been reported. In theory the formula devised by Lukasz Wysocki destroys protein deposits that accumulate in the brain, damaging the structure of neurons and leading to the development of the disease. The 18-year-old came up with the formula while completing an internship at the Institute of Experimental Medicine and Clinical Sciences in Warsaw. However, before it can be tested on humans it must first pass a series of other tests, first on cells and then on animals.

Man discovers potato in shape of a pair of breasts, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, Britain - 10 Jan 2014
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Geoffrey Robinson/REX (3495389b)
A Very Perky Potato
This BOOB-SHAPED potato belongs in a jacket and brings a new meaning to the phrase "bangers and mash."
Farmer Kevin Stokes, 54, couldn't believe his eyes when he found the cleavage-shaped spud, complete with nipples, while grading his potatoes.
"I've been growing potatoes for 32 years and this is the funniest one I have ever seen," said Kevin, who runs Farndon Fields Farm in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.
"It's certainly a one-off and I don't think I'll be able to grow one like it again."
Kevin, who grows six varieties of potato across 550 acres, spotted the comedy vegetable because it was a different colour and shape to the white Wilja spuds he was sorting.
"I think it must have been a rogue seed in the crop of Wilja potatoes as it's not a variety I grow," he said.
"It stood out as it was a different colour and when I picked it up I realised it looked like a pair of breasts.
"We normally throw away odd-shaped potatoes but it was so unusual I took it into the office and everyone fell around laughing."
Kevin, who is a potato ambassador representing the Potato Council in the East of England, believes the spud could be a King Edward.
He is now keeping it out of daylight to preserve it for as long as possible.
"We would like to preserve the potato so we can use it to promote a Breast Cancer campaign in the autumn and raise money for charity," he added.
"We've put it in a drawer as it needs to be kept cold and dark so it doesn't go green."

Man discovers 8ft snake abandoned on doorstep of home, Telford, Shropshire, Britain - 13 Jan 2012

Man Finds 8ft Snake Dumped On Doorstep
A man was stunned to open his front door and find a dangerous 8ft snake dumped on his doorstep.
Scott Adams found the Anaconda - regarded as the biggest snake in the world - inside a container left outside his house in St George's, Telford.
Fortunately the reptile - which is native to tropical South America and suffocates its prey - was docile due to the early morning cold.
Scott, who runs an animal encounter business for schools and birthday parties, believes the snake was abandoned by an owner who could no longer cope with it.
He comments: "I wasn't expecting to find a snake that morning. Thankfully it was early and it had obviously been outside for a few hours so it was cold.
"They're docile at that time of day so it wasn't too hard to unwrap it. Had it been later in the day he wouldn't have been happy after his time in the box".
The snake had been placed in a box that had been wrapped in duvet cover and placed inside a plastic container with holes punched in it.
Once it was freed and warmed up, Scott had to be incredibly careful with the powerful snake.
He said: "People get these when they are small and kind of cute without thinking that they will grow. An Anaconda can easily grow up to 30ft.
"People feel embarrassed because they can't cope with a snake that big and don't know who to ask, but normally they call us and we go and get them, not just leave it in a residential area outside my front door."
Scott has now decided to take the snake in, which he has christened Tiny, and add it to his burgeoning family of animals.

Diver Alex Mustard photographs undersea ship wrecks across world - Feb 2011

Such Curious Things To Sea
An intrepid British photographer has travelled the world snapping pictures of the bizarre things lying on the sea bed.
Diving enthusiast Alex Mustard, 36, has made many strange discoveries while exploring 40 feet beneath the water's surface.
His pictures, taken while investigating the insides of eerie shipwrecks, include barnacle-covered motorbikes once meant for British troops fighting during World War Two.
Rusty British trucks also lie forgotten in their watery graves along with rifles that have never been used.
And one extraordinary photo even shows the shell of the iconic VW Beetle car, now abandoned in the gloom of the murky water.
Alex, from Southampton, Hants, said: "Wrecks attract divers because of the incongruity of seeing something from above the waves beneath them.
"The VW Beetle was purposely sunk for divers and it's particularly bizarre - it's the last thing you would expect to sea underwater.
"I find it fascinating seeing something familiar in an alien place - underwater.
"I couldn't say how many wrecks I've seen but each is interesting in their own way. Each is unique, the features different on every wreck and the atmosphere varies too."
One particularly fascinating wreck for Alex is the HMS Thislegorm - a British cargo ship that was carrying military supplies when it was sunk by a German bomber in the Red Sea in 1941.
Alex said: "This wreck is still packed with trucks, bikes and rifles.
"War wrecks are always the most sombre; I find they are not only museums but also memorials.
"And I always have mixed feeling of excitement and sadness when exploring them. It is an intense experience on so many levels."
Alex has explored wrecks both old and new.
His most recent, the USS Kittiwake, a US military ship built...

CORE BLIMEY! TODDLER FINDS GIANT APPLE
Core blimey! Little Ianthe Whiteley couldn't believe her eyes when she discovered this gigantic apple.
The three-year-old discovered the monster fruit while she was playing in the back garden of a neighbour's house in Bournemouth.
When the enormous 2lb Bramley apple dropped from a nearby tree the curious toddler went to investigate.
What she found was a giant fruit that has a circumference of almost 16 inches and is almost as big as her head.
In fact it is big enough to make two family-sized apple pies all on its own.
The impressive corker was grown by 93-year-old George Wright and it now has pride of place in his kitchen.
Ianthe's dad Ian, 55, said: "She was playing chase in our neighbour's garden with her older brothers when suddenly she spotted this apple dropping.
"Like all three-year-olds she is very curious and went straight over to pick it up.
"She knows what an apple is of course but this one was much bigger than she is used to.
"George has a wonderful garden and often has a great crop of apples but I think this one was a surprise for all of us."
George, a retired engineer, said: "I planted the tree with my late wife shortly after we moved into our house 28 years ago.
"It has always produced lovely fruit but I have never seen anything this big.
"I'm not much of a chef so I usually give my apples to my neighbours. This one is a bit special so I will be giving it to my sister-in-law to make a lovely crumble."
