Armed troops patrol Washington, DC
Armed National Guard troops patrol the Washington Monument at sunset as the Capitol stands in the background, in Washington, D.C., U.S., on August 26, 2025. US. President Donald Trump cited the false claim that violent crime is at an all-time high in the nation’s capital to justify deployment, but critics claim the troops are in high-profile tourist areas where crime is highly unlikely. Violent crime in D.C. has dropped 26% in 2025, reaching a 30-year low. (Photo by Allison Bailey/NurPhoto) -

An AI equipped chess-playing robot that is able to pick up and move pieces around the board has been created — and is also said to offer companionship.
Rather than computer chess opponents which indicate movies, the SenseRobot has a gripper-like hand for manipulating pieces.
It is said to offer levels of play from beginner to expert.
The device is 38.5 cm tall and weighs 5kg.
It has 25 AI levels and more than 25 structured lessons while adapting to every skill level.
SenseRobot Chess uses a camera to analyse an opponent’s moves when in learning mode..
If a player makes a risky move, it will use the AI chess engine to play against them until they realise the problem themselves.
It is loaded with100 classic chess games that cover key opening systems to help boost skills.
There are also 25 AI levels designed to match different skill levels, so a player can always find a challenge that fits their ability.
As well as playing against it on a physical board, it can also compete online with global players.
The robotic arm is said to be able to move pieces with precision creating human-like gameplay.
The company claims SenseRobot is the first home robot to achieve mass production with AI-controlled robotic arms.
OPS: The SenseRobot Lite plays chess with flat, 2D pieces and can also play daughts.
