Nepal Observes Bhoto Jatra, Formally Ending Months Long Rato Machhindranath Chariot Procession
Nepal President Ram Chandra Paudel (center) arrives to attend the Bhoto Jatra procession in Lalitpur, Nepal, on June 1, 2025. The chariot procession of Rato Machhindranath, observed for at least a month to four months, ends with the showing of the 'Bhoto,' expecting the rightful owner to come and claim it. Historians claim that the chariot procession of Machindranath starts around 1,300 years ago. As the legend goes, shortly after the procession starts, the queen of the serpent king Karkotak develops an eye ailment. While searching for a healer, Karkotak mistakes a farmer working in the fields for a physician and brings him to Taudaha, a wetland on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Frightened, the farmer prays to Machhindranath and rubs his hands on the soil to make an herbal paste. He offers it to Karkotak as medicine, and the paste cures the queen's eyes. Grateful, Karkotak rewards the farmer with a jewel-studded vest (bhoto) and returns him to the human world. The farmer begins wearing the bhoto while working in his fields. One day, a ghost in human form steals the vest. The farmer searches everywhere but cannot find it. Later, while attending the Machhindranath chariot festival, he sees the ghost wearing the same vest and claims it as his. When the ghost refuses to return it, a dispute breaks out. People summon Karkotak to resolve the conflict. In the end, because neither party can prove ownership, they entrust the bhoto to Machhindranath. Since then, devotees follow the tradition of displaying the bhoto after the chariot procession, hoping that someone with valid proof of ownership will come forward. Each year, they display the sacred vest on an auspicious date. According to legend, no one succeeds in proving ownership of the bhoto so far. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto) -

Travel Argentina
March 15, 2024 - Buenos Aires, Argentina: Tango dancer in La Boca famous and touristic neighborhood. Javier Milei's government is pushing for a reform of the Migration Law (Law 25,871) to impose stricter controls on foreign entry and residence. Inspired by leaders like Donald Trump, the libertarian administration plans to submit a project to Congress proposing significant changes to Argentina's immigration system. In the last government's Argentina, inequalities widened drastically due to severe cuts and austerity measures, to the point where even the International Monetary Fund (IMF) might be envious. The percentage of the population living at or below the poverty line rose to 57.4%, about 27 million citizens. The primary cause of this deterioration in living standards was the government's decision to devalue the peso, which, alongside other measures, deprived much of society of the ability to access basic goods. Public spending has been reduced by about a third, particularly in the areas of health, social security, and education. In the heart of Buenos Aires, hardship, poverty, exhaustion and despair are etched in the faces of ordinary people. (Maro Kouri/Polaris) (FOTO:DUKAS/POLARIS)

A tiny underwater vest for fish that enables marine biologists to spy on underwater life has been developed.
The novel device aims to deepen understanding of aquatic life by enabling precise monitoring of fish behaviour in their natural habitat.??A research team has pioneered the wearable electronic device that adeptly captures disturbances in the water flow caused by fish movements.
The smart vest uses a hydrogel called MXene, known for its sensitivity to changes in water pressure.
It features a pair of pressure-sensing units, offering a robust and noninvasive approach for a detailed study of aquatic behaviour.
This lightweight vest clips around the fish’s body and is designed to precisely capture the subtle nuances of fish movement, offering a window into their natural behaviours without interference.

Airbags to prevent elderly people fracturing their hips, knocking their heads or breaking ribs in a fall is set to make life safer.
One is in the form of an all-in-one head , shoulders and torso with optional hip protector which looks like a sleeveless gilet body warmer.
There is also a simple belt version that looks like a bum bag just for the hip.
In all cases, the bags inflate in just fractions of a second , just like a car airbag, when sensors detect the wearer is falling.
Each year worldwide, a massive number of elderly people fall.
Because it often leaves the victim immobile, there is a risk of fatal blood clots.
Even if people survive, many lose their autonomy.
The YDB airbag collection has been devised by Chinese tech startup company Suzhou Yidaibao
