Princess Anne has long been known by fashion-conscious Royal watchers as one of the least profligate Royals when it comes to clothing, believing that if a dress is worth wearing once, then it's worth wearing again.
This was highlighted recently (Jul 2008) when she wore the same outfit at the wedding of her cousin Lady Rose Windsor as the one she wore to Prince Charles's wedding to Diana 27 years previously. The white dress with yellow floral print was even partnered by the same hat she wore back in 1981.
Unlike others in the public eye, the Princess Royal believes in being frugal by recycling items in her wardrobe.
"A good suit goes on for ever", she once said. "If it is properly made and has a classic look you can go on wearing it ad infinitum. The economy is bred into me. My parents believe that things are not to be wasted."
And as Hilary Alexander of the Daily Telegraph told the BBC: "The fabulous thing is that the dress is a size 10 and 27 years on (she) is still wearing it. It's a body miracle."
Other recycled outfits include the yellow hat she wore to her daughter Zara's christening in 1981, which made a repeat appearance in a 1985 trip to Khartoum and again at Ascot 3 years later, as well as a midnight blue dress worn in 1999 which originally appeared at a function in Berlin over 20 years previously.
When asked for a comment, a Buckingham palace spokesperson said the Princess Royal did not speak formally about her dress choices.
No matter how the judgemental fashionistas may see this frugality, for most taxpayers it is a reassuring sign that members of their monarcy are not blowing vast sums of money on the Emperor's New Clothes.

For the summer 2008 opening, visitors to Buckingham Palace can experience the spectacle of the ballroom set up for a state banquet, with an enormous dining table laid out with hundreds of pieces of rare cutlery, glasses and table decorations. This will allow visitors to experience being a guest at an event normally reserved for visiting presidents, royalty and dignitaries. During the Queen's reign 77 state banquets have been held at Buckingham Palace, 18 at Windsor Castle and two at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland. As part of the palace ballroom exhibit, pieces from the Grand Service - a silver gilt dinner service made for the Prince of Wales, later George IV, in 1811 for GBP 60,000 - have been laid out for 89 guests. Two buffet displays either side of the table feature a range of items including the Shield of Achilles - a large dish from the 1821 coronation banquet of George IV, and the altar dish used at the coronation of Charles II in 1661.
