TOSCANINI MAKES COME BACK AFTER SIXTEEN YEARS
For the first time in sixteen years, Toscanini, regarded by many as the greatest of all conductors, is giving a concert in Italy. It will mark the re-opening of the Scala Theatre in Milan, bombed during the war and now repaired. Toscanini was banished from Italy in 1928 when he refused to conduct the Scala Opera House orchestra when it played the Fascist march "Giovanezza".
Photo Shows: Toscanini greeting the little niece of the Maestro Giacomo Puccini - Roberta Bouyeure - after attending the first communion service of the child in Milan Cathedral when his own niece (on right of picture) also took her first communion.
