Trotzt auch mit 84 der Schwerkraft: Ehemalige Olympionikin Marjorie Carter trainiert im Fitness Center von Leeds / 020918 *** Marjorie Carter, 84, of Bradford, West Yorks. See Ross Parry story RPYGYMNAST; Former Olympic gymnast from Leeds continues to perform gravity-defying routines at the age of 84 - and she can even do the SPLITS. A former Olympic gymnast proves age is no barrier as she continues to perform gravity-defying gymnastics routines at the age of 84 - she can even do the SPLITS. Marjorie Carter, a grandmother-of-five, competed for Great Britain at the 1952 and 1960 Games in Helsinki and Rome before going on to coach the sport. Amazingly, the octogenarian refused to let old age slow her down and can still perform cartwheels, stand on her head and aims to be still doing the splits when she’s a 100. Inspiringly Marjorie has maintained her Olympian training standards and trains three times a week in the gym - regularly starting her workouts at 6am. She is now hoping to encourage other elderly people to remain active and independent. Marjorie first took up gymnastics at the relatively late age of 10, then just eight years later was selected for the Olympic women's squad. Marjorie, from Bradford, West Yorks., said: “Being selected to represent my country was truly exhilarating. “It was such an honour and those memories of the opening ceremony will last a lifetime. “Everyone is always blown away when I tell them my story so that's always nice to share.” *** Local Caption *** / action press

A pensioner has become one of the UK’s oldest to their pass driving test - after starting 50 years ago. June Evans, 75, was 24 when she first got behind the wheel – but decided to pack it up not long after. The great gran-of-one, revealed it has taken her 36 years to get back in the driving seat – after her sons Gary, 53, and Paul, 47 convinced her too. Husband Brian, 83, has been with June all the way through her journey – even acting as her instructor. June, of Great Barr, Birmingham, had only ever had 25 lessons after starting again but opted for Brian being her teacher afterwards. The 75-year-old had taken her first driving in September 2017 and failed - she then took two more tests this year in April and July but sadly failed both. Fourth time lucky, she managed to finally pass her test on Tuesday, September 4 at the Kingstanding driving test centre, Birmingham. / action press *** Local Caption *** 27694589
