    More than five hundred gas masks carried by people travelling were left in trains arriving at London stations during a monthly period. Of these three hundred were restored to persons who claimed them - and the others returned to the authorities. The moral is obvious.

    Passenger trains to and from Holland and Belgium are frequently searched at Krefeld Station, Germany, by British Military Police and German Police for black market operators and their stock in trade.
    Small scale operators who have been a few miles into the country to barter cigarettes and similar luxuries for a few vegetables are not troubled.
    In the course of the search shown in these pictures, a Belgian soldier was caught with between 40 and 50 pounds of coffee, worth about £400 on the black market.
    A Polish soldier had dead rabbits which he could have traded for liquor.

    THE BEARD TRAVELS - SANTA GOES BY TRAIN

    With a set of toys for children of St Mary's home, Brighton, Sussex, Father Christmas showed his progressive outlook by travelling to Brighton by electric train (instead of by the traditional sledge).
    He was accompanied by Patricia Plunkett, film actress who has just starred in the associated British film ' Landfall '.
    In Brighton, Father Christmas, Miss Plunkett and six children from the home were to make a ceremonial drive of 5 miles through the town in a coach-and-four .
    The coach, the one used in the film ' Great Expectations ', took part in the Lord Mayor's show.

    SINGER OFF TO PARIS TO APPEAR ON FRENCH TELEVISION

    Bound for Paris to appear on French television and to spend a belated honeymoon, singer Morgan Davies and his wife, Joy Turpin, left Victoria Station, London, today (Wednesday). Morgan who was principal baritone at Covent Garden Opera House before the war, sings Tonio in the BBC television version of 'Pagliacci', which is to be broadcast in English from Paris to French viewers on February 6. Davies met his wife when both were playing in the London musical 'Carissima'. They were married last August, but two days after the wedding Davies had to begin a provincial concert tour. As the tour ended, Joy had to start rehearsals for pantomime, Joy's mother Mrs Amy Turpin, accompanied the couple.

    A vintage model to thrill railway engine lovers arrived in London for exhibition at the Festival of Britain. It is the ' Agenoria ' , built in 1829 , and it was brought from York to the Kings Cross Goods Station. It is to be moved to the Festival site on the South Bank of the Thames for public showing .     The crowded scene at St Pancras, London, as a party of 437 Britons set off on the first stage of their journey to Brisbane, Australia. The migrants will sail this afternoon from Tilbury in the Orion which is making a special voyage to Brisbane for the 100th Birthday celebrations of Queensland state. A sign at the station greeted them with the words ' Doorway to a Bright Future' and Australian girls gave them glasses of Queensland pineapple juice.
