    BEGUM AND HIGH COMMISSIONERS AT U.N. DAY CEREMONY IN LONDON

    In the presence of representatives of vendor states of the United Nations, Mr Herbert Morrison, Lord president of the Council raised the flag of the United Nations to the masthead in the Belvedere Road courtyard of County Hall headquarters of the London county council in London today.
    The ceremony symbolised the recognition of United Nations day by the people of London.

    FALKLANDS GOVERNOR LEAVES TO JOIN ANTARCTIC RELIEF SHIP

    Sir Miles Clifford, K.B.E., C.M.G., E.D., Governor of the Falkland Islands and lady Clifford are leaving Southampton today in the Royal Mail liner ' Alcantara'.
    Sir Miles is sailing via Montevideo , Uruguay, to Port Stanley, where he will join the Falkland Islands dependencies survey vessel ' John Biscoe'. The' John Biscoe' - which sailed from Southampton on October 11 and will probably be overtaken by the ' Alcantara ' en route - is carrying a relief party to Stonington island, southernmost base in Antarctic, where 11 scientists are marooned.

    BEAMING CHANCELLOR -

    Mr Winston Churchill, and Chancellor, conferred honorary degrees at Bristol University today upon Mr Lewis Douglas , the American Ambassador: Field Marshal Viscount Alan Brooke, and other distinguished personalities.
    Big crowds lined the streets of Bristol to meet Mr Churchill as he drove through.

    Mr . Reed, 49, is head of the General Electric Company and joint chairman of the Anglo-American Productivity Committee .
    During the last war , he was in London as deputy to Mr . Averell Harriman .
    In his capacity as head of the International Chamber of Commerce , Mr . Reed is travelling thousands of miles to meet members in many countries .
