A level two heat alert has been issued by the Met Office for England, with the heatwave expected to intensify even further tomorrow with temperatures likely climb to 34C.

"Thistle" who is wearing one of the coats from K9 CleanCoats
Woman creates line of dog onesies, Scotland - 18 Sep 2017
*Full story: https://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/tn2f
People are raving about the latest trend to take pet lovers by storm ? dog onesies. And the inventor, Aileen Toynton, from Elgin in Moray is working ?eight days a week? to keep up with the demand from Tasmania to Canada, from the USA to Switzerland and from the UK to the Middle East. The hair-brained idea came from sheer desperation ? because Aileen was unable to find a garment that kept her American Cocker Spaniel, Toto, warm, dry and still able to run about. In a bid to keep her best pal comfortable, the former court shorthand writer ? who had never touched a sewing machine before ? enrolled in an evening class to learn to sew. Now her made-to-measure doggy clothing range also includes a lightweight K9 CleanCoat for dogs with skin allergies and a special Kevlar coat ? the same material used to make bullet and stab-proof vests ? for thrill seeking motor cycle riding dogs.

(Pic 1 - detail) Baby rabbit starts to feed on a thistle plant
Baby rabbit reacts after realising it has eaten thistle plant, Suffolk, Britain - Jul 2015
If it looks tasty.. and it smells tasty... then OUCH!
This funny bunny bit off more than it could chew when it tried to nibble at a thistle plant.
Photographer Kevin Sawford snapped the peckish rabbit near Ipswich sizing up the greenery, before taking a bite.
The resulting reactions of the wild rabbit made for this series of hilarious images as it threw its paws in the air, contorted its face in disgust and stuck out its tongue.
Kevin says: "I had been photographing a family of wild rabbits at their warden in the Suffolk countryside over a few days in the summer.
"On this particular evening this youngster started to feed on the thistle plant. At first it seems content with its meal but then realises the mistake it has made when it bites into the prickly plant. Its reaction is priceless.
"The young rabbit soon recovered and was OK but had learnt its lesson on what to feed on."

Europe's smallest bird, the Goldcrest, Arundel, West Sussex, Britain - 11 Jan 2009
Temperatures may have been a glacial -9 but that didn't stop this little bird from popping out for a snack. The Goldcrest is Britain and Europe's smallest bird. Amazingly, despite their tiny size, which sees adults grow to about three inches and weigh no more than a 20p piece, the birds can endure sub-zero temperatures of up to minus 25 degrees Celcius. With the cold snap biting this little bird ventured out to a local garden in Arundel to pick thistle seeds to eat. Though they can survive in low temperatures the birds can barely afford to stop feeding all day because they have to build up enough fat reserves to see them through the night.

A Goldcrest pecks seeds from a frosted thistle
