    Glimpse Into Gorilla Life
These heart-warming photos give a glimpse into the life of one of the planet's most endangered animals - the mountain gorilla.

With just an estimated 786 left in the wild these magnificent animals are living life on the edge of extinction.

Wildlife photographer Dave Stevenson travelled to one of the mountain gorillas' last strongholds - the mist covered Virunga Volcanoes in Rwanda - to capture gorilla family life on camera.

The end result is a charming set of images that reveal just how little distance separates humans from ape.

Photographing a family group, Dave captured the day-to-day interactions that are oh so human.

In one image a mother appears to offer her rather unimpressed young child a gentle kiss on the cheek.

Elsewhere, a sleepy silverback nods off over his supper, and nearby a baby cuddles up to its mother for an afternoon nap.

As tiny babies play amongst the foliage one youngster is dwarfed by a large female it is patiently grooming.

Nervously keeping to the background is three-and-a-half-year-old Igitangaza, who has recently been the subject of an attack by a lone silverback.

The male, who is not part of the group, badly injured Igitangaza's during the attack, biting off the fourth finger on her right hand.

Following the incident the young gorilla was carefully observed by a Volcanoes National Park Veterinary Warden.

Thankfully, she was seen carefully cleaning the wound and has been eating well, meaning she is expected to recover.

However, the incident has left her nervous and afraid.

She now sticks close to the protection of her group's silverback who, in turn, keeps a careful eye on his injured family member.

The biggest swan round up in the UK
The biggest swan round up in the UK has just taken place early this morning(sat) at the Fleet nature Reserve in Dorset. (collective noun: a lamentation of swans or herd).

Some 500 wild swans were corralled and slowly driven to a landing point at The Abbotsbury Swannery at the end of the waterway that lies just inside Chesil Beach on the Jurassic coast. Hundreds of volunteers of all ages walked to nearly waist deep in order to help keep the swans moving in the right direction.

The giant birds at this time of year are mainly flightless due to them moulting their feathers so they can be very carefully encouraged up the shallow tidal water to a place where a team of handlers can examine, weigh and ring the birds.

Skateboarding Dog Collared After Tripping Two Women
The owner of a skateboarding dog has been fined and threatened with legal action after the free-wheeling mutt knocked two people over.

Owner Jonathan Fell was handed an GBP 80 penalty notice by Brighton & Hove City Council after ignoring repeated requests to keep pet Bodhi on a lead.

The move came after two women claim to have, quite literally, fallen foul of the skateboarding mutt.

In the most recent incident (7th May), a member of the public was left lying bleeding on the pavement after tripping over the Lakeland terrier's board.

A pregnant woman also complained she had been sent tumbling on April 16.

Bodhi became an internet sensation last year after footage of him skateboarding appeared on YouTube.

However, Mr Fell has received several verbal and written warnings from the local council about allowing his pet pooch to do his tricks on the street.

A council spokesman said: "We know Bodhi's antics are an amusing sight and the dog and spectators appear to enjoy it.

"But when people start getting hurt and we receive complaints we have a legal duty to act.

"Bodhi remains free to skate in local parks - but not in dog-free areas."

Mr Fell commented: "Bodhi is always under control. He loves skateboarding and is not a criminal".

He now has 14 days to pay the fine or face a magistrate's court case and a further fine of up to GBP 1,000.

Further images of Bodhi the skateboarding dog can be under set number *1280500 (please account for these images separately)

Would you baa-lieve it, you just get settled and then you're rudely dislodged from your comfy seat. This little lamb thought it had found the perfect sunbathing spot when it clambered on top of its mother's back as she lay on the ground. The comfy perch meant the lamb was able to bask in the sun's rays while keeping warm thanks to its fleecy cushion. However, the youngster got a rude awakening when his mother suddenly got to her feet. As she stood up, the lamb desperately tried to cling on but quickly discovered it was fighting a loosing battle with gravity. The youngster was eventually forced to leap to the ground, landing in an ungainly heap before clambering to its feet.

    The Awe Inspiring South Island
With its awe inspiring natural scenery any visit to New Zealand's South Island is guaranteed to take your breathe away.

Covering some 151,215 square kilometres (58,384 sq mi) it is the larger of the two major islands of New Zealand, though the smaller North Island is the more populous.

These beautiful islands are bordered to the north by the Cook Strait, to the west by the Tasman Sea and to the south and east by the Pacific Ocean.

South Island is characterised by grand open landscapes with the island divided by a backbone of mountains called the Southern Alps.

Visitors to this breathtaking island are guaranteed incredible vistas that include spectacular mountains and fiords, large beech forests, golden sand beaches and broad plains.

South Island highlights include Christchurch, Aoraki/Mount Cook, West Coast, Te Anau and Fiordland, Queenstown and Wanaka, Fox and the Franz Josef Glaciers, Milford and Doubtful Sounds, Hanmer Hot Springs to name a few.

Christchurch is the largest city on the island and is a major stepping off point for touring the rest of what the island has to offer. It lies in the region of Canterbury and is mainly composed of the Canterbury Plains and the surrounding mountains.

The city was established in 1850 by English settlers and this is still reflected today through its older buildings.

In particular these English influences can be seen in the Anglican Cathedral that takes pride of place the Square in the very centre of the city.

Here, tourists can enjoy the city's vibrant nightlife, award-winning restaurants and cafes, heritage architecture as well as impressive modern buildings, a lively arts and entertainment scene, fashion shopping and easy access to beaches and mountains.

Christchurch is also known as the Garden City and its na...

Suspect thief stamps on baby after stopped by police, Zhengzhou, Henan province, China - 24 May 2010
    SUSPECT THIEF STAMPS ON BABY

A suspected thief in China has drawn widespread horror after stamping on a baby.

The incident occurred in Zhengzhou, Henan province when two women carrying babies were detained after being accused of stealing a cell phone.

High school student Xiao Zheng was walking over a flyover when she suddenly discovered that her cell phone was missing.

She comments: "I then looked around and found two women holding babies just past me. A vendor told me that the women stole my phone."

Xiao ran up to the women and demanded that they return her phone.

"They jumped on me out of blue and started to pull my hair, saying I framed them and accusing me of stealing their cell phone."

The two women continued to abuse Xiao until "they suddenly threw my phone onto the ground, and I called police immediately".

Police arrived shortly afterwards, quickly followed by some of Xiao's family members.

As police tried to calm the situation down one of Xiao's angry relatives approached one of the suspect women and pushed her.

Shockingly, in response the woman in question threw her baby, a girl, onto the ground and stamped on it while shouting in protest.

As the baby screamed, both women then sat down on the ground and refused to move.

Eventually officers managed to get them into the back of a police vehicle and they were taken to the local station.

Miraculously, the baby escaped uninjured from the incident.

In China some thieves disguise themselves as parents holding children in order to appear less suspicious.

Even if they are caught by police they can then use the baby as an excuse when pleading for leniency from officers.

As such, sometimes these 'prop' babies are n...

A large parasol shields the body from one half of the beach but even those who have a good view seem unconcerned. They continue to go about their business, apparently unmoved by the grisly sight which occupies Mappatella beach in Naples with them. Last year Italy was left shocked after photographs emerged of beach-goers happily sunbathing near the dead bodies of two Gypsy girls on another beach in Naples. They continue to go about their business, apparently unmoved by the grisly sight which occupies Mappatella beach in Naples with them. Last year Italy was left shocked after photographs emerged of beach-goers happily sunbathing near the dead bodies of two Gypsy girls on another beach in Naples. At the time the images triggered harsh criticism from Archbishop of the city, Crescenzio Sepe.

G-20 Protest in the City of London, Britain - 01 Apr 2009
G20 summit protesters have clashed with police after thousands of people flooded into central London today (1 April). The clashes come just a day before global leaders are due to converge on the Docklands in London to discuss the current economic crisis. Eleven people have reportedly been arrested as tensions rose between police and a large group of people who had converged close to the Bank of England. Several protesters, many with their faces covered, were also seen trying to goad the police. To begin with police outnumbered protesters but as the afternoon went on more and more people began to arrive as four different marches converged on the area. They represent a wide variety of different groups, from those lobbying for action against the banks to others wanting greater protection for the environment.

Flooding in Sunsari, Nepal - 04 Sep 2008
Around 60,000 villagers in Nepal have been displaced due to flooding caused by the Kosi river breaching its defences three weeks ago and changing its course. The conditions have also affected nearly five million people in neighbouring India. Both governments now face the task of feeding and housing the many refugees who are living in relief camps. It is thought that some people will be forced to stay in these camps for up to six months. Already disease is becoming a problem and officials have said that at least 14 people living in Nepalese aid camps have already died after becoming ill. Both India and Nepal accuse each other of being to blame for the failure of the flood walls that should have prevented the disaster.
