'There's no other solution': Polish abortion centre opens in challenge to strict laws
Frustrated by government's failure to ease rules, an NGO is opening a centre a stone's throw from parliament in Warsaw.
Located a stone's throw from parliament and the headquarters of the ruling Civic Coalition, the centre is a direct challenge to the country’s near total ban on abortion.
Natalia Broniarczyk (40), Justyna Wydrzynska (50) and Kinga Jasinska (45), founders of Abortion Dream Team and idea initiators of the Abortion Center in Warsaw prepare the space for the opening next morning. The location is kept secret until last moment.
Offices of the Polish Parliament, located just on the opposite site of the street are reflecting in the center’s windows.

The fight for legal and safe abortion in Nigeria
In a country where thousands die every year from unsafe procedures, and rape is shockingly high, campaigners must overcome strict laws and religious beliefs, as well as misinformation and stigma.
Mifepristone and misoprostol, medicines used to induce abortion safely are both legal in Nigeria, a country with one of the world's highest maternal mortality rates, but only if used to save women's lives during obstetric complications.

Zara (18) (right) and Faith (18) (left) met at the Alabaster Jar Foundation shelter for “abandoned teenage moms” in Lagos. They were both convinced not to have an abortion and promised help by the Christian foundation, which shelters pregnant teenagers until the second month after delivery. Then girls and their newborns are encouraged to reconnect with their families or left to find a different accomodation. Zara and Faith are both rape survivors, both were sexual assaulted since early age, first by members of their closed communities. Both got pregnant and were rejected by their families. After leaving the foundation they become homeless and found shelter in a house of Zara’s extended family. They however have only one change of clothes and wrap themselves and children in fabric, waiting for the clothes to dry after washing them every few days. Faith daughter is currently sick. ‘Catastrophic implications’: UN health expert condemns US over threat to abortion rights Special rapporteur Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng argues in brief filed in a US court that overturning abortion rights would violate international human rights treaties ratif
Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng, 39, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health, poses for a portrait at Bryant Park in Manhattan, New York.
The United Nations special rapporteur on the right to health has called on the US supreme court to uphold the right to abortion in America or risk undermining international human rights law and threatening that right elsewhere in the world. The special rapporteur, Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng, is one of just a handful of global observers whose mandate is to travel the world defending human rights. Mofokeng has argued in a brief filed in a US court that overturning abortion rights would violate international human rights treaties ratified by the US, including the convention against torture, should women be forced to carry pregnancies to term.
