Tourists will be able to fly to the edge of space and even get married – in a balloon. Passengers and research payloads twill rise above the Earth in Spaceship Neptune, a high-performance hydrogen-filled balloon and pressurized capsule. The US company behind it, Space Perspective , plans to launch from space agency NASA’s conic shuttle landing facility at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The first un-crewed test flight scheduled in early 2021 that will include a suite of research payloads. The balloon measures the length of a football stadium and the pressurized capsule is comfortable and spacious. Flown by a pilot, Neptune will take up to eight passengers called “explorers” on a six-hour journey to the edge of space and safely back.It will carry people and research payloads on a two-hour gentle ascent above 99% of the Earth’s atmosphere to 30,000 kilometres where it cruises above the Earth for up to two hours allowing passengers to share their experience via social media and with their fellow travellers. Neptune then makes a two-hour descent under the balloon and splashes down, where a ship retrieves the passengers, the capsule, and the balloon. Neptune’s commercial human spaceflight launches will be regulated by the USA’s spaceflight aviation authority, the FAA.There is no date set yet when the first paying passengers will be taken up or the cost.

A fogbow by Striding Edge on Helvellyn in the Lake District
Fogbow by Striding Edge, Lake District, UK - 16 Dec 2017
A skier and mountaineer has taken an unusual picture of a FOGBOW over a mountain in the Lake District. Tom Hecht, a marketing manager from Kendal, who loves outdoor pursuits, took the stunning photo of the rare natural phenomenon from Striding Edge on Helvellyn on Saturday (Dec 16). The picture shows the remarkable fogbow above Hellvellyn, which is 3000ft high and the third highest mountain in England. A fog bow, sometimes called a white rainbow, is a similar phenomenon to a rainbow, but it appears as a bow in fog rather than rain.

The picture shows Trees and Fog by Preston Stoll, 29. It was taken at Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, not too far from Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He said: 'On the morning after a bitterly cold night in December, I left Steamboat Springs in search of frost and any winter weather I could find. I wandered the roads and forests near the edge of the morning snow showers to find where interesting transitions in weather might be seen. This was the last photo of many taken that morning and my favourite by far. The 26 finalists for this year's Weather Photographer of the Year have been announced and the public are being invited to vote for their favourite. The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), which celebrates its 170th birthday this year, in association with AccuWeather, has put the shortlisted pictures on their website and people can visit photocrowd.com/wpotyvote to vote until September 25.The popular competition, which is now in its fifth year, has attracted entries from around the world.
