Cult leader Manson was recently hospitalized and officials are citing medical privacy rules and not announcing his condition. It has been confirmed that he is alive. The 83-year-old inmate has been behind bars in the California prison system for 46 years, convicted for his role in leading the cult that committed a wave of murders. The cult of those who followed him was known as the Manson Family. August 1996 - Los Angeles, CA, USA - In October 12, 1969, CHARLES MANSON was arrested and charged with seven counts of murder and one conspiracy charge after it was discovered Manson ordered and directed his followers to commit murder for the Manson Family. He was convicted on the conspiracy charge on January 25, 1971 and sentenced to death. After the Supreme Court eliminated the death penalty in California in 1972, Charles Manson's sentence was commuted to life in prison (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)
