Pegida is an acronym for Patriotische Europaeer Gegen die Islamisierung des Abendlandes, or Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamification of the West, and has quickly gained local mass appeal by demanding a more restrictive policy on Germany's acceptance of foreign refugees and asylum seekers. Pegida supporters with poster Stoppt die Islamisierung Europas or Stop the Islamization of Europe of the German right-wing populist Pegida movement , Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident, who call themselves as Baergida or Bergida participate at a demonstration near Alexanderplatz square in Berlin, Germany on January 19, 2015. The Anti-Islam protest is inspired by the protest against Fundamentalist Islam formed in Dresden last year; right wing groups try to get influence into this new social movement, which has attracted thousands of participants to its weekly gatherings that have also begun spreading to other cities in Germany.
