Pet Cruises For Pampered Pooches
It's a 'ruff' life for Singapore's spoilt pets.
Boat owner Joe Howe, 48, has started taking pets and their owners out on cruises.
Based in Singapore, the retired broker and his business partner Max Chan lead two cruises a week to the islands and beaches in the northern part of the country.
His 26-foot (7.8-metre) motor catamaran, which comes with a swimming deck, has a cleaning station and provides life jackets for dogs.
Pet Cruise takes their guests out for a short two hour ride on a catamaran, which they can chose to charter the entire boat or book on an individual basis.
It costs S$400, which is approximately GBP 200, to book the boat for two hours.
Pet owners have even brought on board tortoises.
Launched last May Pet Cruise has become very popular and Mr Howe said: "Pet owners find this activity an excellent way to spend some quality time with their pets, family and friends.
"Young couples are having pets before they have children, it's a stand-in, and at times even a replacement (for kids)."

Australian Navy transport new battleship using one of the superships of Dockwise - Aug 2012

You Floated My Battleship! The Superships That Carry Superloads
When the weighty problem of transporting superloads around the world arises, a bulky breed of superships are ready to take up the challenge.
But rather than standard cargo containers, these vessels are capable of floating unimaginable loads including full oil rigs, multiple nuclear-powered submarines and, in one epic voyage, 18 barges from China to the Netherlands.
Currently, the Australian Navy are employing the services of Netherlands-based shipping company Dockwise's MV Blue Marlin, the largest cargo transport ship in the world.
The ship is transporting the first of two aircraft carrier hulls from Spain to Melbourne.
The Australian Landing Helicopter Dock (ALHD) Canberra is the first to commence the 12,000 nautical mile voyage around the Cape of Good Hope, estimated to be completed in 45 days after setting off on 20 August from Punta Langosteira, a new large port just south of La Coruna, northern Spain.
Spanish company Navantia has completed construction of the ships from the keel to the flight deck, and now the hulls are being transported for completion by BAE Systems Australia. The second hull, the ALHD Adelaide, will be transported in early 2014.
Blue Marlin is more than up to the task, being 712ft in length, larger than two football pitches, 138ft deep and able to carry 75,000 tonnes. That said, the ALHD Canberra is so large it overhangs the Blue Marlin deck by 180ft.
Blue Marlin's load capability also meant it was the ship of choice for the U.S. Navy when they had to transport the stricken destroyer USS Cole back to the United States after the warship was damaged by an Al-Qaeda suicide bomber attack while anchored in the port of Aden, Yemen.
The Blue Marlin is manned by a 24 crew and is powered by 17,000 horsep...

Royal Air Force C-17 from RAF Brize Norton delivers a very large consignment of Libyan bank notes to the authorities in Benghazi, Libya - 31 Aug 2011
Newly-minted Libyan dinar notes worth GBP 140million worth have been transported from Britain to Benghazi. The huge haul, which was transported by air from RAF Brize Norton, was packed into 2m (6ft 6in) piles for the journey. Once they reached their destination the 280 million Libyan dinars - still bearing the face of ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi - were handed to leaders of the National Transitional Council. The money forms part of a 1.8 billion dinars (GBP 950million) sum that was originally ordered by Gaddafi in March but was blocked by the UN. The sum was recently unfrozen following a meeting of the United Nations sanctions committee in New York. The money will be used to pay public sector workers, including nurses, doctors, teachers and police officers, who have not been paid for months as well as fill up empty cash machines.

Baby Orangutan Cruises To New Home In Style
A critically endangered orangutan abandoned by his mum has cruised to a new home in comfort - in his own first class cabin.
Baby Silvestre - who celebrates his first birthday on New Year's Eve - dined on citrus fruit and milk as he made the 24-hour crossing to Portsmouth, Hants.
Brittany Ferries gave the nappy-wearing primate a private four-bed suite for the 690-mile trip aboard the Cap Finistere from Santander, Spain.
Silvestre spent most of his time exploring his surroundings and swinging from ladders and bunkbeds in his 150 pounds-a-night room.
But he was also allowed to visit Captain Patrick Thomas on the bridge.

Boat made from plastic bottles completes voyage, Sydney, Australia - 26 Jul 2010

Expedition leader David de Rothschild onboard Plastiki, A boat made out of 12,500 recycled plastic bottles has reached dry land after sailing across the Pacific Ocean
Plastiki Sails Into Sydney
A boat constructed of thousands of plastic bottles has sailed into Sydney Harbour, finishing its four-month, 9,000 mile (15,000 km) voyage that began in San Francisco.
The Plastiki was built of 12,500 plastic bottles to raise awareness of the dangers posed to the environment by plastic waste.
Hundreds of people turned out in Sydney to welcome the Plastiki's skipper, expedition leader and environmentalist David de Rothschild, as well as his crew of six.
The catamaran, made by attaching thousands of plastic bottles to two pontoons with organic glue, left San Francisco in March, crossed the Pacific and then visited Western Samoa and New Caledonia before arriving in Australia.
It sailed via the Great Pacific Garbage Patch - a sea of mainly plastic waste about five times the size of the UK that sits just below the surface between California and Hawaii.
Other parts of the boat such as the sails and the mast are made from recycled materials.
Mr de Rothschild said that a UN report warning of the dangers posed by plastic waste to the world's oceans was the inspiration for his trip.
The Plastiki will now go on display in Sydney's Maritime Museum.
It was named after the Kon-Tiki, the raft sailed across the Pacific by Norwegian anthropologist Thor Heyerdahl in 1947.
Heyerdahl's grandson, Olav, was a member of Plastiki's crew.

The Oasis of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, is officially unveiled, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, America - 20 Nov 2009
WORLD'S LARGEST GBP 800M CRUISE SHIP UNVEILED
The world's largest and most expensive cruise liner has officially been unveiled to the public.
The 1,200-foot (360-metre) Oasis of the Seas was commissioned by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and comes with a GBP 800 million price tag.
Nearly six years in the making, the ship has 16 passenger decks, putting the highest 65 metres above the waterline.
At 1,187 feet (360 metres) long and 208 feet (65 metres) wide, it can hold 6,296 guests in total, along with 2,165 crew.
It boasts 2,706 guest staterooms, of which 1,956 have a balcony overlooking either the sea, Central Park or the Boardwalk.
The mammoth vessel is broken down in several different areas: Central Park, the Boardwalk, Pool & Sports Zone, Royal Promenade, Vitality at Sea Spa & Fitness, Entertainment Place and the Youth Zone.
Bringing the outdoors indoors, Central Park is the first ever living park at sea.
Located at the centre of the ship, it is open to the sky above and features 12,175 plants including 93 different plant varieties, 62 vine plants and 56 trees and bamboo.
The Boardwalk area has been inspired by traditional seaside piers and stretches for over 255 feet (77 metres).
As its centrepiece its boasts a carousel featuring 18 wooden figures, such as zebras, giraffes, lions and horses, which each took over six weeks to make.
The Boardwalk is also home to numerous cafes, shops and carnival games and, at the very end, the AquaTheater - an amphitheatre style pool and performance area.
The AquaTheater pool is the largest and deepest at sea; with seating for 735 people, it will play host to professional diving and theatrical performances.
Meanwhile, the Royal Promenad...

Women only trains introduced due to safety concerns, New Delhi, India - 02 Nov 2009
INDIAN WOMEN APPLAUD FEMALE ONLY TRAINS
With millions of Indian women pouring into the workforce over the past decade many have found themselves facing numerous obstacles.
In such a tradition-bound, male dominated culture, discrimination is rife and even the basic task of getting to work can leave a woman exposed.
Women travelling in crowded mixed sex carriages often face abuse and worse, a practice known as 'Eve teasing'.
Due to this the Indian railroad initially introduced special females only carriages, meaning that at least two carriages per train were reserved solely for use by women.
However, with overcrowding such a problem on the rail network men would often simply break into these compartments.
In response authorities began a drive called "Bhairavi" - intended to penalise men travelling in ladies-only coaches - but it didn't work.
So, with the problems of taunting and harassment continuing to persist, in recent months the government has decided to simply remove men altogether from certain trains.
In a pilot program, eight new commuter trains exclusively for female passengers have been introduced in India's four largest cities.
Known as 'Ladies Specials', these services have been introduced in Delhi, Mumbai (Bombay), Calcutta and Madras (Chennai) and have proven to be a big hit.
They can easily be recognised thanks to their bright colours - the front of the engine is painted blue and red and the carriages are bright yellow - and come equipped with clean, padded benches and electric fans.
Security onboard is tight with both male and female officers from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) patrolling the aisles. The only other ad...

Here's an idea that will never take off - a hostel aboard a JUMBO JET.
The world's first built guesthouse onboard a real Boeing 747-200 has touched down at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
Guests (or is that passengers?) have the chance to sleep in the cockpit of the aircraft - which comes complete with throttle controls.
You can even wake up to the sight of real planes taxiing on the airport's runways through the windows.
The staff also dress as cabin crew - with many of them actually former air hosts and hostesses.
The plane has a reception and lounge area, complete with candlelit tables and a retro company logo, and a choice of 25 rooms.
Prices ranging from GBP 29 for a dorm bed to GBP 275 for the cockpit double, which includes private bathroom and breakfast, meaning this overnighter offers both budget flight and long haul-equivalent prices.
"It's just fantastic and unbelievably exciting to finally be able to show something so unique and special for the rest of the world," says Gisela Olsson, Site Manager at the Jumbo Hostel.
Originally delivered to Singapore Airlines in 1976, the jet also spent time in Cathay and Pan Am fleets.
But now it is grounded indefinitely could be there be any better way to join the TEN METRE-high club
