Jason Harvey, Craig Barlow and Kyle of the VRA , a NSW volunteer- bases rescue organisation took a run out on a swollen but decreasing Manning River this morning for a medical run to the isolate township of Croki, where waiting was Michele Bennett. The VRA men took a stroll through the flooded streets to see if any other people required help. Michele’s house had been inundated, the water coming up around 60-70cm. She is pictured with Mario Agis ( orange pants ) who made a measurement of the flood, comparing it with the 2021 flood event. Flooded homes and rescues are seen along the river. NSW. Australia

'It's shameful and I won't pay it': flood-hit Italians rage against insurance call
The destruction in northern Italy has ignited debate in a country where just 6% of homes are insured against natural disaster.
The hamlet, on the banks of the Lamone River about 40 minutes from the regional capital of Bologna, has been all but wiped out.
Currently just 6% of homes are insured against natural disasters, and 5% of businesses. That, says the government, needs to change.
A temporary embankment for a floodplain has been constructed in Faenza after the third flood in sixteen months that affected the Borgo neighborhood.

Can southern Brazil's deadly floods spur the shift to green energy?
Months after devastating rains displaced 420,000 people in Rio Grande do Sul, an unusual consensus has formed around the need for a faster transition to renewables.
Southern Brazil - like the rest of the country - is an outstanding model of adopting clean energy. According to the energy ministry's report last year on the National Energy Balance, more than 80% of Brazil's electricity already comes from renewables.
On the banks of the 448 motorway, which connects Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, with the metropolitan cities, a mountain of flood debris can be seen. After the impacts of the climate crisis in Rio Grande do Sul, some people are still suffering from the damage caused by the floods in May. The state of Rio Grande do Sul has announced a plan to promote sustainable development that can combat the damage caused by climate change, through investments in renewable energies and the green economy. The overwhelming scale of loss in Brazil's floods
In the state of Rio Grande do Sul, authorities are struggling to find shelter for half a million displaced people as a health crisis looms.
In Canoas, more than 100,000 of its 347,000 inhabitants have been displaced, according to city officials.
Many affected by the floods who were left homeless camp on the city's viaducts, such as one over the BR116, at the entrance to the city. São Leopoldo, a city in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, is another of the cities that were hit by the rains in Rio Grande do Sul. There, neighborhoods, such as the Rio dos Sinos neighborhood, are still under water. Where the water minimally receded and there was the possibility of returning to their homes, some victims of this flood returned to see the extent of the damage and begin cleaning.

Elisandro Dutra Glubert, 38, a construction foreman, has lost count of how many people and animals he has rescued as a volunteer. But when he entered his home and saw the destruction caused by the flood for the first time, he was moved. Today, in addition to rescuing people, he supplies water, food and rations to people who have not left their homes. Volunteers are circulating around Vila Farrapos, in the northern part of Porto Alegre, trying to convince people to leave their homes in the flooded areas and go to shelters. Along the way, they also try to rescue some abandoned animals and, when this does not happen, they leave food for cats and dogs. Armed police officers have been monitoring the rescues after reports of looting of flooded establishments and assaults on boats.

Brazil is reeling from catastrophic floods. What went wrong - and what does the future hold?
In the country's south, up to half of the annual predicted rain fell in just 10 days - the third such event in a year. Experts say it is time to plan for a new normal.
Extreme weather of Brazil's southernmost state twice last year. In September 2023, Muçum and its nearly 5,000 inhabitants were at the centre of the devastation caused by floods.
