REPORTAGE - Doel: Das verlassene Dorf neben dem Atomkraftwerk
May 7, 2016 - Doel, East Flanders, Belgium: An abandoned gas station and other buildings covered in graffiti seen in the Belgian village of Doel. The historic town is home to Nuclear Power Plant Doel, with reactors that produce electricity for customers in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Doel is threatened with complete demolition due to the future enlargement of the Port of Antwerp. Many historical buildings will be destroyed, although some residents remain in protest. Recently, Germany has asked Belgium to shut down the two nuclear reactors stating safety concerns, due to both the aging of the infrastructure and terrorism concerns. ISIS demolition of Baalshamin Temple

ISIS have continued their destructive rampage in Palmyra by destroying the Temple of Baalshamin.

Photos released by the group show the ancient Graeco-Roman structure being rigged with explosives before they're detonated.

The explosion brought down the inner sanctum, or cella, and surrounding pillars.

The Temple of Baalshamin was built nearly 2,000 years ago and was considered the second most important structure at Palmyra.

The act has been widely condemned internationally and the UN's cultural organisation said that it constituted a 'war crime'.

Scrap Dealers Come To Street Against Kathmandu Mayor Balendra (Balen) Shah
Scrap dealers march in the roads of Kathmandu, Nepal, on August 26, 2025, protesting against Mayor Balendra (Balen) Shah, accusing him of unleashing a bulldozer terror against their businesses. The scrap workers and traders picket the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) office, chanting slogans and carrying placards with sharp messages against the mayor. They demand an immediate halt to what they describe as harassment, assaults, and forced demolitions carried out by the city police under Shah's leadership. The demonstrators put forward a five-point demand, which includes guaranteeing the constitutional right to pursue their trade and occupation, stopping physical assaults, intimidation, and demolition of scrap businesses by KMC authorities, taking action against city police involved in excesses, ensuring the safety of scrap workers, collectors, and traders, and compensating for damages caused to the scrap industry over the past two years. Protesters warn that unless their demands are addressed, they will escalate their demonstrations further and hold the mayor directly responsible for the unrest. Cottam Power Station Cooling Tower Demolition
August 14, 2025, Retford, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom: The remaining 8 cooling towers of Cottam Power Station are demolished. Contractors said the flattening of the eight 114m (375ft) structures at Cottam Power Station was the largest simultaneous demolition of cooling towers ever carried out. The coal-fired complex, opened in 1968, was capable of generating enough electricity for 3.7 million homes and was originally only designed to be operational for 30 years, but its life was extended to 2019, when it closed for good.
