'These water companies have got a damn nerve': anger in England as 58,000 homes lose supply while bills surge
Southern Water customers' taps ran dry or lost pressure after a fault at one of its supply works.
Tens of thousands of people supplied by Southern Water in and around Southampton whose taps ran dry or lost pressure on Wednesday. The continuing outage, which hit 58,000 households in Hampshire after a fault at a supply works, happened as the industry regulator, Ofwat, announced the region's bills will rise by more than anywhere else in England.

There’s a new pyramid in Egypt – made of plastic waste salvaged from the Nile.Erected in Egypt's Western Desert, just outside of Cairo, the immense structure took five days to build, weighs 20 tons, is taller than a three-story building. It is made using the equivalent of 1 million plastic water bottles collected from the Nile. The pyramid was unveiled ahead of the COP27 climate conference in the country’s Sharm el-Sheik red sea resort. The unveiling marks the beginning of a movement called the 100YR CLEANUP - an initiative led by zero-waste company Zero Co and wine company The Hidden Sea. It seeks to fund large-scale clean ups for the next 100 years and drive accountability for the single-use plastic problem. It will let consumers sponsor the removal of bundles of trash while businesses can be part of the game-changing initiative by contributing funds towards the initiative. The Hidden Sea is a wine company that removes plastic from the ocean every time a bottle is bought.Founder Justin Moran said: "Despite its epic size, the pyramid shows just a fraction of what is an incredible crisis.
