Bocas Bali, a luxury private island retreat in Panama, now has a unique attraction - the world’s first aerial beach.
The completion of the over-water Kupu-Kupu Beach means guests can now experience a private island destination with the ultimate luxury – an elevated white sand beach and stone-tile water entry.
“We have the most picturesque private island retreat at Bocas Bali and the only thing missing was the beach,” says Owner and Founder of Bocas Bali, Dan Behm. “We wanted to create an experience in a class by itself that pays homage to the incomparable natural setting while providing our guests the luxury of a private beach experience on our exclusive island. We don’t want to be everything to everyone, but we really have something special and it’s undeniable from the moment our guests arrive at Bocas Bali.”
The new beach took around nine months to build, using very little modern machinery, and is approximately ninety feet long and twenty feet wide. Kupu-Kupu features a white sand beach with lush palm trees, stylish lounge chairs and the Tipsy Bar with a wood shake roof serving refreshing cocktails and light fare for guests to enjoy.
A ten-foot-wide wooden boardwalk is a natural extension of the island, creating an entry point to access the elevated beach.
The beach isn’t just built to offer guests elevated luxury however, as it also is designed to protect the pristine ecology of the island. Imported green quartz-tiled stairs cascade down from the beach level allowing residents to seamlessly enter the crystal water with ease and without disrupting the natural mangroves that surround the island.
The resort team has also commissioned five environmental studies to ensure the protection of the mangrove and caring for its crystal-clear waters. All construction and overwater structures are specifically placed to prevent interference with these and the coral surrounding the private island.
