Bolivia Morales Visits Gas Plant as YPFB Takes Over
Bolivian President Evo Morales tours the Campo Grande Gas Plant on the first day that Bolivia's State Gas Company, YPFB (Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos) effectively took control of the operations of all hydrocarbons production in the country including this plant previously run by the Spanish company Repsol, near Santa Cruz, Bolivia on Thursday, May 3, 2007. Morales' bold nationalization process took an entire year to implement because of difficult negotiations with foreign companies such as Repsol and Petrobras of Brazil. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez recently made a similar move with the hydrocarbons sector in Venezuela, tightening restrictions on multinationals operating in the country.
