CANNES-TONA 'THROWS SARDINES TO THE SEAGULLS'
Former Manchester United legend Eric Cantona continued his meteoric rise from former footballer to budding Hollywood superstar last night as he arrived at the Palais des Festivals for the premiere of 'Looking For Eric' at this year's 62nd Cannes Film Festival.
Accompanied by wife and fellow actor Rachida Brakni, wearing a a strapless cream Sonia Rykiel gown, the French footballing ace put on his tuxedo and stepped out on to the red carpet to pose and smile for photographers.
This kind of behaviour would have been an anathema in the past for the famously volatile and moody sportsman-cum-actor, whose attitude towards the press has usually been less than genial.
Directed by Ken Loach and starring the eponymous sports star, the film revolves around a football fanatic postman (Steve Evets) whose life is descending into crisis. To help him overcome this, he receives some life coaching from the famously philosophical Eric Cantona. The film also stars Lucy-Jo Hudson (Coronation Street), Max Beesley and Gerard Kearns (Shameless).
Other star guests attending the premiere included his brother Joel (also a former professional football player), supermodel Doutzen Kroes, fellow catwalk queen Eva Herzigova in a halter neck Atelier Versace dress, Hilary Swank in a ruffled strapless grey satin number and Evangeline Lilli in a turquoise Valentino creation.
Cantona's previous acting roles include a cameo appearance in the 1998 film 'Elizabeth', starring Cate Blanchett.
