This is the virtual court hearing where Tyler Robinson, accused of assassinating conservative influencer Charlie Kirk was formally charged.
Robinson, 22, spoke only to give his name.
Even when told his alleged crime carried the death penalty, he only nodded slightly.
Otherwise he stared directly at the video link screen showing him the hearing at the State of Utah District Court presided over by Judge Tony Graf.
Also on the link was Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray who said the state would be asking for the death penalty.
As well as Kirk’s murder, Robinson has also been charged with felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering and commission of a violent offence in the presence of a child.
Robison was told an attorney would be provided as he could not afford one himself.
The charges relate to the shooting of Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.
Earlier Gray said he does not "take this decision lightly" in seeking the death penalty for Robinson who was remanded in custody.
His next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.

Utah killer Tyler Robinson first video court appearance
September 16, 2025 - Provo, Utah, United State: Utah killer Tyler Robinson, 22, appeared on video from his Utah prison cell for a virtual hearing before District Judge Tony Graf, wearing a green “suicide smock,” and not speaking except to state his name. The judge read out the seven charges against him and determined Robinson was “indigent,” and therefore had been appointed an attorney. A waiver hearing is scheduled via WebEx on Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. and the judge encouraged Robinson to attend. Robinson confessed to murdering conservative influencer Charlie Kirk at a public college speaking engagement in a chilling text exchange with his trans lover hours after allegedly carrying out the assassination — and left him a hidden note confessing to the plot. Charlie Kirk assassin arrested
September 11, 2025 - Utah, United States: Tyler Robinson, 22-year-old from Utah, was identified as Charlie Kirk shooting suspect after his father turned him in. Robinson engraved anti-fascist messages into bullet casings before opening fire on the right-wing commentator. He was arrested on Sept. 11, after a 33-hour manhunt, and stands accused of killing Kirk, 31, as he spoke at a Turning Point USA event on the campus of Utah Valley University the day before. He allegedly implied a confession to a family member who contacted a family friend, who informed the sheriff's office. Robinson has been booked into the Utah County Jail. Utah governor Spencer Cox said that an inscription found on the bullet casing fired at Kirk read "notices, bulges, OwO, what's this?" Engravings on unspent casings, found with the .30-06 Mauser rifle discovered in the woods near the university, read "Hey fascist, catch" followed by an up arrow, right arrow, and three down arrows. Another casing read "O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao ciao" — a possible reference to a World War II-era Italian anti-fascist folk song. Another engraving read "If you read this you are gay lmao." (USD/Polaris) (FOTO:DUKAS/POLARIS) -
