    The Final WWII War Chaplain
He may be 93 years old but Canon Bill Peters still has a packed roster of weddings, christening and funerals to oversee.

And - despite being the only WWII chaplain still working today - he has no intention of slowing down.

Bill signed up with the Royal Army Chaplains Department 67 years ago at the age of 25.

The move - made in June 1945 - saw him become the youngest chaplain during the conflict.

To begin with he was flown to help troops in Tobruk, Libya before also spending time in Benghazi, Jerusalem and Cairo.

He got on well with the young troops, aided - he believes - by his keen interest in sport.

While studying theology at Cambridge his was awarded a wartime Blue for football after scoring the quickest hat-trick at the time - three goals in two minutes.

Over the years he also played football for Brighton and Hove Albion and cricket for Sussex.

At the end of the war he returned home to take up the position of rector Uckfield in Sussex, which he held for 27 years.

He regularly met the Queen when she would visit his church after seeing her close friend Lord Rupert Nevill, who lived nearby.

Bill - a widower of 10 years and a grandfather of two - was also appointed chaplain at Westminster Abbey.

Despite his accomplishments Bill believes - God willing - that he still has a lot left to achieve and has no intention of taking it easy just yet.

FORMER PENTAGON CHIEF ROBERT MCNAMARA DIES

Former US defence secretary Robert McNamara has died at the age of 93.

He died in his sleep at his home in Washington DC after suffering failing health for some time.

McNamara held the position of defence secretary during the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis, serving under presidents John F Kennedy and Lyndon B Johnson.

He was also an architect of the US policy of nuclear deterrence.

Before becoming Pentagon chief in 1961, McNamara was the president of Ford Motor Company, turning the company around in the post World War II era.

After leaving the Pentagon he went on became president of the World Bank.

When he left office he was the longest-serving US defence secretary.

He is most famously associated with his role as key architect of the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1968.

This left him the target on many anti-war critics and later, in his memoirs, he wrote of his regret over his role in the war.

Following his retirement from the World Bank in the early 80s he also championed the cause of nuclear disarmament.
