The drama unfolded on a low rock ledge between Porth and Watergate Bay in Cornwall on Thursday where the couple had become stranded.
The man and woman could be seen clinging to each other as powerful waves swept towards them on an incoming tide which had cut them off.
Luckily someone had raised the alarm and rescue arrived just in time in the shape of a helicopter.
A coastguard spokesman said: "The UK Coastguard received a call from a member of the public at approximately 12pm today reporting that two people had become cut off between Porth and Watergate Bay.
"The Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team and all-weather and inshore RNLI lifeboats were tasked to assist, along with the Coastguard search and rescue helicopter.
The Coastguard helicopter extracted the casualties and then landed at the top of the cliff, handing them into the care of the Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team."
