Flocks and herds of grazing free-range farm animals could one day be monitored by a specially built drone able to round up strays like a sheep dog.In many parts of the world, sheep in particular are let out to feed in all sports of terrains. The drone, called Bitzer, is designed to follow and monitor sheep and other types of animals. It’s GPS and a live video feed would help modern day shepherds track and monitor their animals without having to physically find them on foot. The name Bitzer was inspired by the sheepdog in the popular children’s television program Shaun the Sheep. The Bitzer would be able to act as a ‘sheepdog of the skies’ finding and tracking the sheep to make sure they are safe and accounted for while saving time for the farmer.

Elephant Society is 'Still Disrupted'
African elephants' decision-making abilities are left impaired by culling operations that ended decades ago, University of Sussex research suggests.
A study found that elephant herds that lost adults to culls during the 1970s and 1980s were less able to respond appropriately to other elephant calls.
Lead researcher Prof Karen McComb said the animals' "social understanding" had been impaired by the loss of adults.
The results are published in the journal Frontiers in Zoology. (FOTO: DUKAS/LFI/Photoshot)
