A diving instructor is causing a splash in the world of art by panting scenes of the ocean bed – while underwater.Russian-born Olga Belkin has developed a technique of using oils to capture life under the waves armed with a canvas and brushes. But her works, which are in demand around the world , can take up to six weeks to dry out !Olga, who now lives and works in Thailand is also a trained artist and said combining her two passions seemed like an obvious thing to do.She said:” I had an idea to paint under water for a long time. I spent several years developing the underwater painting technology, special paints, and so on.“ The perception of colour and shape is distorted under water. So I did a lot of work before opening my exhibitions.”She uses special which do not dissolve in the water and says their make-up is “ secret”The brushes have a special shape and negative buoyancy so they don’t float away when she is not using them. The actual canvas uses is also a closely guarded secret.
