Music icon John Lennon’s legacy is set to be immortalised on a UK commemorative coin by the country’s The Royal Mint.
The new coin celebrating the Beatle’s life and record-breaking career coincides with the year in which he would have celebrated his 85th birthday.
The coin’s design features a portrait of Lennon based on an image taken by rock photographer Bob Gruen.
It depicts a side profile shot of Lennon, taken on the roof of his penthouse at the Dakota building in New York City.
Experienced coin designer Henry Gray incorporated the portrait of Lennon to feature at the centre of the coin's design.
John Lennon’s name appears to the left of the portrait while the word “Imagine” features on the right side of the design – a special nod to the song and album of the same name.
To officially unveil the design, the coin was pictured in New York City, against the Lennon ‘Imagine’ mosaic in Central Park opposite the Dakota.

The James Bond movies are being commemorated — with a set of coins depicting a scene from a single film from each one of the decades in its 61 year history.
The UK’s Royal Mint is issuing seven coins in various formats including gold and silver to celebrate 007 on the big screen.
The first to be revealed is Sean Connery in 1967 Bond film You Only Live Twice.
It shows the late star in a single seater autogyro helicopter called Little Nellie which feature prominently in the film with Connery involved in a dog fight near villain Blofeld’s lair.
The designs for the remaining six coins , to be released gradually over the coming year, have not been revealed.
