Egyptian Defense Minister speaks to protesters
February 4, 2011, Cairo, Egypt, Egypt: The Egyptian Defense Minister, Mohamed Hussein Tantawi visits Tahrir Square. On 25 January tens of thousands of Egyptians took to the streets in unprecedented protests calling for the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak who has ruled the country since 1981. Protests have now continued despite heavy repression from police and other Egyptian security that killed dozens of protesters. Mubarak's attempt to placate protesters by dissolving his government failed, as Egyptians stayed in the streets demanding Mubarak's ouster. Egyptian minister of Health said Friday that about five thousand people have been injured and eight have been killed in clashes between protesters and supporters of Mubarak.///The Egyptian Defense Minister, Mohamed Hussein Tantawi (C) visits the protesters in Tahrir Square.
