A fragrance said to smell like a new born baby has been created by scent company.
It was created in Japan after researchers at the country’s Kobe University .
The smell, called Poupon Pure, is said to be the culmination of six years of research that recreates the newborn aroma with a blend of what is described as floral and fruity notes.
It is recommended for use as a daily personal fragrance and as a relaxation aid before going to bed or during meditation.
To create it, researchers with doctors from Hamamatsu University School of Medicine in Shizuoka collected scent samples from the heads of about 20 newborn babies.
From these samples they identified 37 scent components.
The main component of the baby scent is a floral-smelling chemical called nonanal.
Some researchers believe babies release it as a way to encourage gentle communication from their caregivers.
Testing this recreated scent on 20 men and women showed that it activated specific areas in the brain that evokes a pleasant feeling and the desire to continue smelling it.
Startup company Scentfest , a spin-out from Kobe University, is behind the product.

Squirrels enjoy the vibrant floral colours of summer by playing with and smelling lots of different plants. The small rodents appear to particularly enjoy the dandelions, blowing the delicate seeds everywhere and even trying to eat them.

The striking red of their fur stands out against the pinks, purples and yellows of the summertime scene. These adorable images were taken in Bispgarden, Sweden, by photographer Geert Weggen who uses nuts and seeds to entice squirrels to the scenes in his garden. SEE OUR COPY FOR DETAILS.
