Protestors clashing with police outside the Cambridge Union
Dominique Strauss-Kahn talks at Cambridge University, Britain - 09 Mar 2012
Controversial economist Dominique Strauss-Kahn spoke at the historic Cambridge Union this evening despite a protest by hundreds of university students hours before his arrival.
More than 700 undergraduates had also signed a petition by the student union's Women's Campaign demanding the former head of the IMF was disinvited. But the world-famous debating society decided to continue with the sold-out event, at which the 62-year-old French politician spoke for just over an hour.
Outraged students, carrying placards protested outside the Union shortly before the talk. They were joined in their protest yesterday by Douglas H Wigdor, the American lawyer representing the hotel maid fighting a civil case against Straus-Kahn.
