    Most of Sinjar was destroyed during the battle for Sinjar in November 2015 when Islamic State (ISIS) was defeated after an offensive by Kurdish en Yesidi Peshmerga forces with air support from the Western coalition.

    The area is still dangerous because of unexploded ordnance, mines and IED's, improvised explosive devices.

    The organisation MAG (Mines Advisory Group) helps clearing the AREA.

    MAG esti,ate that approximately 30 percent of Kurdish Pesmerga were killed by IED in Sinjae after the liberation.
