A company preparing to take tourists to the edge of space via a balloon have revealed details of the on-board bathroom and other passenger facilities.
US-based Space Perspective has designed a luxuriously appointed private bathroom with too window views.
The space tourism company has sold more than 1,600 tickets costing $125,000 USD each for its flights which are due to commence in 2024.
Passengers will sit in a richly appointed pressurised capsule named Neptune which will be harnessed to a huge balloon
The bathroom with toilet, sink, and view was inspired by the idea of a “space spa.”
With the toilet seat down, there is a comfy cushion so people can go into the smallest room just to be with their thoughts alone.
Unlike other space tourism experiences using rockets, the ride on board Neptune is six hours long, so the bathroom is deemed a necessity.
The bathroom’s windows can be closed off, aimed at those passengers who may be nervous of heights and having space views in their peripheral vision.
The balloon will ascend to an altitude of 30 kilometres giving those on board 360-degree views of Earth’s curvature and the blackness of space, with visibility extending up to 724 km in any direction.
Spaceship Neptune does not reach space which begins at an altitude of 100 km.

Neptune’s Curious Dark Spots
Astronomers using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope watched a mysterious dark vortex on Neptune abruptly steer away from a likely death on the giant blue planet.Ê The storm, which is wider than the Atlantic Ocean, was born in the planet's northern hemisphere and discovered by Hubble in 2018. Observations a year later showed that it began drifting southward toward the equator, where such storms are expected to vanish from sight. To the surprise of observers, Hubble spotted the vortex change direction by August 2020, doubling back to the north. Though Hubble has tracked similar dark spots over the past 30 years, this unpredictable atmospheric behavior is something new to see.Ê Equally as puzzling, the storm was not alone. Hubble spotted another smaller dark spot in January this year that temporarily appeared near its larger cousin. It might possibly have been a piece of the giant vortex that broke off, drifted away, and then disappeared in subsequent observations. Link: NASA Press Release Credit: ESA / eyevine

The latter day ruin of Pompeii and Herculaneum, Italy - 2010
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Nick Cornish / Rex Features ( 1213743x )
The Second Downfall Of Pompeii
In AD79 the Roman town of Pompeii was buried under an avalanche of ash after Mt Vesuvius erupted.
For those who lived in the ancient town the disaster was upon them so suddenly that there was no way to escape.
Tens of thousands were killed as death reined down upon them and the town was swallowed up - preserved for thousands of years under 4-6 metres of ash and pumice.
Today, Pompeii and its sister site Herculaneum are once again facing a crisis as an apathetic attitude finishes the job that Vesuvius started - destroying Pompeii forever.
For the ancient site, which attracts around two million tourists each year, is once again being buried - this time under a mountain of bureaucracy and indifference.
Following their burial Pompeii and Herculaneum were largely forgotten about for the next 1,500 years until their accidental rediscovery around 1592.
However, it wasn't until the late 18th century that a systematic evacuation of the sites got underway.
Fast forward to 1997 and the two towns were officially recognised by Unesco, which described them as "a complete and vivid picture of society and daily life at a specific moment in the past that is without parallel anywhere in the world".
And at one time this was a fitting description for the archaeological site, which has fascinated visitors through the ages.
In 1925 archaeologist Amedeo Maiuri was put in charge of the two sites and until his departure in 1961 he set about recreating the two cities' heyday.
However, with Maiuri gone this drive disappeared and slowly but surely Pompeii and Herculaneum have been deteriorating thanks to natural forces and human activity (both accidental and deliberate) .
Even when Unesco made its glowing praise of the sites the rot had already very obviously set in.
Since then th...
