Cape Province, South Africa
A WORLD OF DIVERSITY AND DIFFERENCE IN SOUTH AFRICA
From vast plains to rolling mountains and golden beaches to barren deserts, South Africa is a vast country of huge diversity.
And its bustling cities are just as varied as its landscapes - from the likes of hustling Johannesburg to the cosmopolitan Cape Town.
The country is renowned for its wines and is the world's largest producer of gold.
In 2010, it will also play host to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the first time the contest has been held on the African continent.
Cape Town is the second largest city in South Africa and is the capital of the Western Cape Province.
It is also the legislative capital of the country, being the location of parliament and other government buildings.
One of these is the old city hall, a large Edwardian building in the city centre that was built in 1905.
It was here, on 11 February, 1990, that Nelson Mandela made his first public speech just hours after being release from prison.
Cape Town is noted for its architectural heritage, with the highest density of Cape Dutch style buildings in the world.
One of its latest constructions is slightly different however - the main stadium that will host matches during the World Cup.
Known as the 'Mother City', the Cape Town metropolitan area covers a vast sprawl; however, the city centre or 'bowl' is relatively small.
It is nestled between Table Bay and the Table Mountain range, which provides a dramatic backdrop to the city.
The flat-topped Table Mountain, along with other famous peaks such as Lion's Head and Apostles Mountain, form part of the Table Mountain National Park.
This area is a significant tourist attraction, with many visitors using the cableway or hiking to the top of Table Mountain.

HAVING FUN IN HAVANA
Electric and unique, Havana is a city like no other - guaranteed to offer the traveller a host of lively and colourful sights and sensations.
Situated on the north coast of the island of Cuba, Havana is built around a natural harbour and is one of the fourteen provinces of the Republic of Cuba.
In the 1950s before the Communist revolution Havana was one of the vacation hot-spots of the Caribbean.
It reopened to tourism in the 1990s and has become a popular destination once again.
The bustling city offers a wide variety sights, ranging from museums, palaces, public squares, avenues, churches and fortresses.
Contemporary Havana is effectively three cities in one: Old Havana, Vedado, and the newer suburban districts.
Old Havana, with its narrow streets and overhanging balconies, is the traditional centre of Havana's commerce, industry, and entertainment.
To the north and west is the newer section known as Vedado, which has become a rival of Old Havana for commercial activity and nightlife.
Just breathing in the scents of the city and watching the 1950s Chevy's and Russian Ladas roll down the streets makes for a fantastic day of sightseeing.
And walking the crumbling streets allows you to explore the magnificent colonial architecture that abounds.
Key sights in the city include the Museum of the Revolution, which is housed in what was once the Presidential Palace of all Cuban presidents.
It became a museum during the years following the Cuban revolution and its exhibits are largely devoted to the revolutionary war.
Behind the building lies the Granma Memorial, a large glass enclosu...

The Sundeck, between 14th and 15th Streets, offers unobstructed views over the Hudson River. Water emerges from the spaces between planks to skim the upper walkway, while on the lower level, rail tracks are reinstalled in plantings derived from the High Line's self-sown landscape.
The Disused Elevated Rail Track Set To Become New York's Prettiest Park
THE DISUSED ELEVATED RAIL TRACK SET TO BECOME NEW YORK'S PRETTIEST PARK
A disused railway track looks set to become one of the prettiest parks in New York.
The High Line in west Chelsea is being converted into a park including floating ponds, sundecks and lookout spots over the Hudson River and Manhattan.
The elevated former industrial line had become decrepit and overgrown but thanks to the support of wealthy benefactors and several famous names it is undergoing a transformation into an amazing green space.
With the first phase set to open to the public later this month (June), the park should span 22 blocks once it's all open in 2010.
Stretching 1.45 miles, up to 30ft high and only 60ft wide, the line runs along Manhattan's West Side, from Gansevoort Street, in the Meatpacking District, through Chelsea to 34th Street.
Having last carried freight in 1980, it was saved from demolition by former mayor Michael Bloomberg and has seen high-profile support from the likes of Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, Susan Sarandon, Harvey Weinstein and Jerry Seinfeld.
With $50m needed to complete the project, a recent star-studded fundraising gala saw individuals donations of $10m each from media mogul Barry Diller, whose corporate headquarters overlooks the elevated tracks...

Chiang Mai, Thailand
CHARMED BY CHIANG MAI
Chiang Mai is Thailand's "Rose of the North" - so called because of the abundance of flowers that thrive in its cooler mountain climate.
And the city itself has its own fair share of outstanding natural beauty, not to mention friendly locals; if you want to get away from busy Bangkok, but still want to stay in a big city with lots of things to do, Chiang Mai is the place to be.
Chiang Mai is the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand, and is the capital of Chiang Mai Province.
In recent years Chiang Mai has become an increasingly modern city, although it still lacks the cosmopolitan nature of Bangkok. However, its multitude of attractions still attract thousands of foreign visitors each year.
And long before this influx of modern foreign visitors, the city served as an important centre for handcrafted goods, umbrellas, jewelry (particularly silver) and woodcarving because of its strategic location on an ancient trade route.
Chiang Mai was founded in 1296 by King Mengrai with the help of two of his royal friends; it soon became capital of the old Lanna kingdom. Its somewhat isolated location, amidst the rolling foot hills of the Himalayan Mountains 700 km north of Bangkok, meant that up until the 1920s the city could only be reached by an arduous river journey or an elephant back trip. This isolation has helped keep Chiang Mai's distinctive charm intact to this day.
When he first built the city, King Mengrai constructed a moat and a wall around it to protect it against raids from Burma. Chiang Mai literally means "New Walled City". Though the city has now spread much further, sections of the wall and moat can still be seen encircling Chiang ...
