PARIS: Graffiti in Grande Borne in suburb of Grigny
Graffiti beside flats in Grande Borne in Grigny (Essonne), south of Paris. Grande Borne has been classed as a 'Zone Urbaine Sensible' by French authorities - this means it is a high-priority for government funding and development. The area has a high level of urban violence and unrest. On April 7th, a gang of youths armed with stones and bats set upon a bus in the area and lit it on fire. They claimed the act was a retaliation to brutal police behaviour the previous day. Grande Borne, Grigny, FRANCE - 19/04/2010./Credit:HADJ/SIPA/1004230853

BUSHEHR: Iran's first nuclear power plant prepares to open doors
Situated 1,200km south of Tehran in the port town of Bushehr is IranÍs first nuclear power plant. It was completed on February 25th 2009, more than thirty years after its construction began. Iran's nuclear programme was launched in the 1950s with the help of the United States. The first nuclear plant was to be built with Russian cooperation in 1975, however, the agreement collapsed following the 1979 Islamic revolution. Today, construction has been completed with renewed Russian assistance and the plant is currently being tested. International pressure surrounding IranÍs nuclear capabilities may prove to be an obstacle to the opening of the plant, which is scheduled for the end of the summer 2009.
