British photojournalist Rick Findler spent ten days embedded with Qalubna Ma?kum - a group of foreign volunteers who have teamed up with the Peshmerga in Kurdistan, Northern Iraq to help them in the fight against Daesh AKA ISIS. Here, he recounts his experiences.
........
Kat, a 29-year-old volunteer fighter based here in Kurdistan, started the Qalubna Ma?kum volunteer organisation when she arrived back in December last year. The name - literally meaning ?our hearts are with you? in Arabic - was thought of after many hours of deliberation by Kat, her French boyfriend Guillaume and medic Michael Wagnon.
Kat is currently talking about how she used to use sky diving as her ?zen? to cope with the very boring free time she had in California after her seven year stint in the United States Army.

Photographer Valerio Berdini spent days walking the streets of Lisbon, trying to put into pictures the most peculiar of Portuguese feelings: 'Saudade'.
Saudade is a Portuguese word that has no direct translation in English.
It describes a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing may never return.

As Northern Ireland goes to the polls today (2 March 2017) photographer Valerio Berdini has released a photo collection exploring the troubled history of the country. Voters in Northern Ireland are voting today as part of the Assembly Election following the resignation of former Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness. Valerio comments: "As part of an ongoing series of projects exploring Brexit and the repercussion on the United Kingdom equilibrium, series explores Northern Ireland in its most controversial history". "The Troubles" is the common name for the conflict that distressed Northern Ireland. It began in the late 60s and ended with the Belfast "Good Friday" Agreement of '98.

A man passes by a mural celebrating the freedom to wave flags in an area of Belfast where once was forbidden. Murals commemorate, communicate and show display aspects of culture and history. The themes of murals often reflect what is important to a particular community. A mural therefore exists to express an idea or message and could generally be seen as reflecting values held dear to that community.
