These haunting photographs show the remnants of the once all-powerful Soviet empire.
They are the work of Eric Lusito, who spent six years travelling throughout the former Soviet world from East Germany to Mongolia, from Poland to Kazakhstan to seek out remains of the military installations that embodied the ambition and the might of the USSR.
Describing himself as working like an archaeologist, the French photographer says his project "Traces of the Soviet Empire" is a photographic record of the land and architecture - haunted by the symbols and history of a once powerful Empire.
The on-going project takes the form of three series: exteriors, interiors, and found photographs "images from another time, another space and another world".
What he found was colourful propaganda wall art, faded frescos of Lenin, discarded gas masks, and huge monuments, including those in the shapes of a soldier and a sword.

Later this month Mrs M Menzies ( Kay Stammers ) leaves Britain to live in South Africa. Before her departure she is doing as much as possible at the Maida Vale (London) training centra where, under her direction, girls discovered in the Lawn Tennis Association's talent-spotting scheme receive special coaching. In this picture Mrs Menzies (extreme right) is watching her deputy coach Wightman Cup player Mrs N W ( Molly ) Blair, demonstrate a backhhand stroke to pupils at the Maida Vale centre.

Mrs Menzies pictured here (left) showing Pat how to hold the racket, leaves later this month to live in South Africa. But before she goes she is doing as much as possible at the Maida Vale (London) training centre where, under the direction girls discovered in the Lawn Tennis Association's talent spotting scheme are given special coaching in the hope that they will one day achieve international honours.

NAVY SHORE ESTABLISHMENT USED TO TRAIN MERCHANT SEAMEN
At the Royal Navys only establishment for Merchant Seamen HMS Gordon which takes the form of rambling buildings on dry land with a pier, men from 19 to 41 are put under Naval dsicipline, given naval uniform and taught seamenship before they even board a ship. These are men, who, when they registered, expressed a preferance for the Navy and have been posted to the Merchant Navy.
Practically all the indtruction in this shore establishment for Merchant Seamen, such as learning to shoot, splice, steer a ship and rea a compass, is carried out on dry land, although the school has a motor launch in which the men have steering practice, and learn hos to take soundings.
