Santa Muerte In Tepito, Mexico City
May 1, 2025, Mexico City, Mexico: In Mexico, the belief in Santa Muerte, a deity of pre-Hispanic origin, has never ceased to be worshipped throughout the country. The main altar to this deity is located in the Tepito neighborhood. Its owner, Enriqueta Romero or Dona Queta, has welcomed thousands of people since she placed the altar outside her home. Believers in Santa Muerte come to celebrate the first days of the month with music, drinks, cheers, and figures from their personal altars to be blessed by other believers and to pay or give thanks for the miracles she has performed for them. Iconic US Kentucky Fried Chicken founder Colonel Sanders is getting a makeover — as a Japanese Samurai warrior.
Instead of the trademark white suite , bootlace tie and stetson hat, he is donning the ancient armour of the elite knights.
And he'll be on display at KFC restaurants around Japan from the end of April and beginning of May.
The reason for the Colonel’s cosplay is Children’s Day, an annual public holiday in the country on May 5 that celebrates the happiness of children but once known as Boys Day.
One of the Boys Day traditions still going despite the name change another is decorating the home with a traditional Samurai warrior battle helmet called a kabuto.
The samurai helmet is seen as a wish for boys to grow up strong and powerful, and it’s a tradition that KFC has been embracing since 1984, when the first helmet-wearing Colonel appeared in Japan.
